Television

For TV size, I had to chose "other", but I don't have a big screen. Mine is a 32".

 

We have a largescreen in family room with the surround sound and all...my husband likes all that extra stuff. It is kinda neat for movies or sports. We watch Fox news a lot in our bedroom which is a 32 inch or so in an amoire. We also have a built in TV for the children to watch occassionally(mainly videos and an occassional movie). This one is in our school room which is off of the playroom.

We never have the TV on during the day...maybe an hour or less in the evenings,but it is after children are in bed and my husband and I are catching up on the news of the day.
We do like to rent a family movie,make popcorn a couple of times a month.

My, how the standards of you young ones are different from us old ones.
32 would look enormous to me. We have one 17 or 19" in the house, not sure which.

I'm a sci-fi geek and a DVD snob. Gotta have those larger screens to get all that detail, ya know . BTW, my condo is on the second floor. I can't even tell you how many Commandments I broke trying to get that thing up the stairs. It weighed, uhh, a lot. A larger TV with a plasma display would have been more expensive, but, since it wouldn't have had the picture tube, it would have weighed only 1/4 of what my TV weighed. I don't plan on buying another TV until HDTV flatscreens drop below $900. (which at the rate they're dropping, won't be long). Every TV purchase has been bigger than the last. My first TV in college was 13". When I got my first apartment, I bought a 19". Then after 10 years, I got a 28". Then, a few years ago, I got my current 32". My next will likely be larger, and HD widescreen.

19" is the standard in the range. Yours is likely a 19".

BTW, is this a good time to bring up the question of "stereo tv" or "mono"?

 

Watch mainly sports, news and movies. Stay away from network drivel.

I try to catch a baseball game on TV (World Series champs Marlins) with my son during the evenings at least twice a week. Like watching the sports and movies on the big screen, but FoxNews still works on the 32".

 

- 27 inch flat screen in the living room that i have run through the stereo to improve sound until my wife allows me to get surround sound

- 19 inch DVD/VCR combo in our room

- 13 inch with a VCR that works sometimes for the kids in the playroom

For me, i usually watch Fox News or ESPN, my wife likes TLC for the decorating shows and my kids like the usual kids stuff (Cartoon Network, Nick and Disney).

 

I WATCH TV!!! Whew, there, I said it.
Shows I won't miss, I'll hurt you if you try to make me miss them: "24" and University of Kentucky Men's Basketball games.
Shows that I watch (but won't hurt you over if I miss): CSI's, Law & Order's, NCIS
Shows that I will hurt you over if you try to make me watch them: All of the Reality shows

Men want to control the remote not because they want to see what is on but because they want to see what ELSE is on.

 

I'm the first person on this poll who said she didn't have television?!

I thought that many boardmembers didn't have one because of religious objections.

Sometimes I suspect that the only reason my own church hasn't banned television is that a rival church did it first.

Me, I don't own one because of a mixture of frugality (well o.k. poverty) and lack of interest.
I'm not going to buy an expensive item (+ tv-guide) that I'm only going to use an hour or 2 each week.

 

My hubby is the TV freak at our house. It took him till just here recently to figure out that I really don't sit and watch TV all day. The kids had to tell him.(instead I sit here at the computer)

But there is a TV in just about every room, cept the bathrooms and the diningroom. The reason for that is that none of us likes to watch what the other watches. Our hours that can be spent watching TV are limited, so no one wants to waste that time watching something we don't enjoy.

I'm subverting my children though. Lately they come watch TV with me, cause my shows are more interesting and less noisy than the shootemups and sciencefictiony stuff their daddy watches.

 

I now have visions of what it is like growing up in Menageriekeeper's household.
Do I go watch the new Battlestar Galactica with dad, or desperate Housewives with mom?

(I've never actually seen either show, but I know they exist)

 

T is more likely to watch either of those than I am.

I watch things like Trading Spaces or Animal Planet or family type movies if there are any on. Oh, or baseball, but the kids don't like baseball so usually whatever Dad is watching wins out or they bring something to play with while I watch the game!

1 human hair is approximately 50 microns and a millimetre is approximately 40 microns. (That is head hairs).

 

We have 5 t.v.'s in the house but one is the tiny 13" version has a VHS built in and can also be used in the car. One is in the rec room but not hooked up to cable or antenna. We use it for Playstation or DVD, VHS only. The one in Nick's room has a VHS built in and a DVD player plus his Playstation but isn't hooked up to cable or antenna. The one in our t.v. room and the one in our bedroom are on satellite but with only one receiver. To change channels in our bedroom, I have to go down to the t.v. room and switch it there.

 

I have a 46 inch wide screen high def TV in my office a work. I generally find a ball game on or listen to the music channels. Will watch from time to time.

 

Gib, just what kind of job do you have that requires you to have a TV at work????

Ah, the perks of working at the cable co. I also have 3-13 inch TV's in the same office.

And yes, I'm worth the pay. If you don't believe me, just ask me.
