Texas woman with a concealed gun accidentally shoots a patient in her doctor's office

A witness told KCEN's sister station 12News that a woman was in the waiting room of a medical office. When she reached into her purse to pull out some paperwork, a gun fell out of her purse causing it to discharge. The round went through a wall and hit another patient in the hip.

Bobby Pressley was in the waiting room when it happened.

"Everyone was sitting in the waiting room and there was a gun shot. A woman dropped her purse down on the counter and it shot through the wall and shot another lady," said Pressley.

That is a strange story. Modern firearms are designed NOT to fire when dropped. Now there are some very cheaply made revolvers made more than 40 years ago that can go off when already cocked and then dropped, but guns that go off when dropped is largely a plot device for movies and television.

I'm quite interested to see what has truly happened here after the investigation is complete.

Seems to me that simply following correct firearms procedures would have prevented this from happening.

Perhaps politicians should make a law preventing stupid people from owning guns. ;)

I'm amazed at how many of the commenters in the original story recommend that the patient that was shot should sue the doctor.

Health professionals learn very quickly to never underestimate the stupidity of people.
I guess physicians should have a sign outside their offices saying, "No Morons Allowed"
... unfortuately that would eliminate most of the patients.

Belle Starr mistakenly loaded six instead of five? ;)

This is simply another example of a person who has the right to own a weapon but no real need to own one.

"Accidents happen," someone said. Does that make the pain and blood of the wounded any less? I don't think so. Also concerning Reagan, simply playing politics to his right wing supporters. He was an actor and good at such things as misdirection, creating fog. Any good politician can do this.

When are we going to develop a rational policy about weapons in this "civilized" country? After all we need a license to go fishing, to go hunting, to drive a car, to borrow a book from a public library, etc. and yet .............................

Yep. And it doesn't keep people from drowning, falling off a cliff or having wrecks.

So, just what do you consider a "rational" policy to be? (I can't hardly wait)Rolleyes

Well...she had a license for her weapon, CTB. Unless I missed something that said she was carrying illegally, she filled out the same paperwork and was approved by the same agencies as all the other responsible concealed-carrying folks.

As for "need" -- how do you determine "need to carry"?

After you've been mugged, robbed , raped , beaten, or murdered. Welp, I shoulda been carrying.Thumbsdown

What does that really mean? How many people have the right to free speech but "no real need" to talk?

"Accidents happen," someone said. Does that make the pain and blood of the wounded any less?.

Is the pain and blood in Stillwater, OK, any less because accidents happen and she didn't need to own or drive a car? And certain she didn't need to be intoxicated-- so, Prohibition again?

A license is a legal permit to do something that is illegal otherwise. Did she have one? Regardless, you have to give information to get any kind of a license, and have to show a photo ID. That idea is not attacked-- except for voting. Perhaps you're in favor of only illegal aliens having a right to carry a concealed weapon, as the democratic party is in favor of their voting (and don't you wonder for whom?)?

My problem is, and the Daily Kos article and subsequent advertisement about the NRA are prime examples, the blatant ignoring of facts. CTB asks for rational gun laws, and then cites things that require a license--while ignoring that there is a license required for concealed carry. The call for rational gun laws doesn't identify why our existing gun laws aren't "rational."

In other words, there's nothing rational about CTB's post. So I invite him to actually use that intellect he'd like us all to believe he has, and enter into a discourse on how to improve what we already have.

And what "rational policy" are you suggesting? Tell me how you plan to take guns out of the hands of criminals (including the criminally stupid) and not infringe on the rights of law abiding citizens?
After all we need a license to go fishing, to go hunting, to drive a car, to borrow a book from a public library, etc. and yet .............................
And the lady needed a license to carry a concealed handgun in the state of Texas. How did that license work out for you?

And you are getting your "facts" from dailyKos? Really? A radical left wing socialist page that brags its purpose is to SHUT DOWN THE NRA?

And in doing a search of the web the only source I can find is dailykos. Not a single collaborative report from any legitimate news service. And no police report filed in Beaumont, Texas regarding any such shooting.

And "gun went off when dropped?" Whoever wrote this nonsense obviously knows nothing about modern firearms. All modern handguns are equipped with what is known as a "drop safety." A solid bar is between the firing pin and the cartage making it impossible for the gun to fire if dropped.

I smell a rat. A lying rat. A lying socialist rat. A lying, socialist, anti-american rat. :(

You won't get an answer, TC.

"Rational policy" is another leftist euphemism for any policy that can eventually lead to confiscation from law abiding citizens.
