Hillary Clinton’s latest mishandling of sensitive information may have occurred before an audience of 70 million.

Speaking at the presidential debate Wednesday night, Clinton noted that it takes four minutes from the time the president makes the call to use nuclear weapons to their actual launch. The remark came amid questions about the fitness of Clinton and GOP candidate Donald Trump to hold the nation’s nuclear codes, but critics, including former intelligence operatives, told Fox News that level of detail about nuclear response times is “protected information.”

“The bottom line on nuclear weapons is that when the president gives the order, it must be followed,” Clinton said. “There’s about four minutes between the order being given and the people responsible for launching nuclear weapons to do so.”

She has demonstrated time and time again that she has no clue how to keep the country safe.

I probably would have been up for a general court martial in my USAF days for releasing such information.

Of course the Russians had no idea how long it takes from the order given to launch time. They are completely in the dark regarding such things. </sarcasm>

(Not excusing her saying this, just pointing out it's a known quantity)

Of course it is. That is why military people are upset about her statement. It's such common knowledge.

If it's supposed to be such a secret, why did I know about it? It's common knowledge that the response time is between 4 to 8 minutes. Now, this could be disinformation--it might be faster--and the military people's shock is all an act to reinforce the dis-info.

Seriously? That "time-frame" has been public knowledge at least since Reagan. Here's one headline supposedly from August of this year:

Voice
Our Nuclear Procedures Are Crazier Than Trump
U.S. presidents are currently given a four-minute window to decide whether or not to initiate an irreversible apocalypse. Sad!

http://foreignpolicy.com/2016/08/05/our-nuclear-procedures-are-crazier-than-trump/

Just because GOP'ers weren't aware doesn't mean it wasn't widely known.

Military folks aren't upset. GOP folks who apparently don't know the basics about our nuclear program are upset. Gosh we talked about that time frame back in my seventh grade civics class in the 80s.

The very fact that she opened her mouth and allowed such a statement to come forth is a breech of security.
If she is willing to blab this information what else has she revealed?
Make all the defending excuses you want. All the information you think you know.

It's still - at very least - bad judgment - at worst - a crime.

Not surprisingly, y'all are the same folks talking about she should be jailed over some stupid emails.:Cautious

Let me repeat. THE TIME FRAME (about 4 to 12 minutes) is COMMON KNOWLEDGE. A lot of y'all are apparently not very common.:Biggrin

This is just silly and one of the reasons why GOP'ers keep harping on about her "crimes" when apparently the lot of you don't have a clue.

What's bad judgment about something a lot of folks already know? How do y'all think deterrence works anyhow?

It's simple math. For example, if it takes Russian missiles an hour to reach the United States and it takes 4 minutes for the US to respond and another 30 minutes for our missiles to reach Russia, that leaves almost 30 minutes.

Thus Russia won't fire because they know we'll retaliate and have time to wipe them off the map. DETERRENT.

The response time-frame is already known by Russia and every other nuclear power.

You are probably wrong Zaac. I don't think things could have changed that much since I was in the service.
The important thing is that (assuming the 4 minutes is smokescreen misinformation) they really aren't sure now whether she "leaked" it or not seeing all the pro and con press it has produced.

Putin is also probably much more concerned about our new and wonderful toys of war in our arsenal then how long it will take to muster an alert.

In any event she should not have done it under any reason or pretense being the Secretary of State. Public war talk is always unwise at her level. Now Putin must crow a little as well.

Man y'all to stop being silly. Regardless of your military service, you OBVIOUSLY didn't know that Lil piece of info.

Some of y'all need some help. Alex Jones must be sending out radio waves.

Who is they? The idiots who think she leaked a number that's been common knowledge for decades?

I'll bet that some kind of way Sean Hannity made an issue of this on his show and now GOP'ers are trying to make a thing out of it.

Sad.

You got a lot of probablies.[emoji38]

Why not? The only folks that lil tidbit seems to have been a secret to are you and the GOP'ers crying that she committed a crime.

Putin knows how deterrency works.

Zaac, Wrong again. I was stationed at a combat ready base here in the states on the Ballistic Missile Early Warning System (BMEWS) lines of defense and that's what we did - respond to SAC, TAC or ADC alerts. My job was in Computer Information and Intelligence processing.

The probablies are because of our advances, of which I am no longer in the loop, although I still have clearances to take government contract jobs (which I have done).

Man ain't nothing wrong except your fifty years ago interpretation of a 2016 nuclear program. The timeframe is common knowledge. Get over it. You and your friends didn't know it but the info is public knowledge.

The info had been made public, but wasn't "official"; it was just verified by an individual who should have known better.

Wrong again Zaac, I have had government contracts (military/classified) as well since my honorable discharge.
