The ACLU is not your friend!!!

Patently false! Why do some Christians tell untruths to further their agenda? There are plenty of reasons one may oppose the ACLU, but to lie to drum up support for your position is wrong. From their website (bolding mine):

They receive funds directly from the tax payers quite regularly.

 

I read about this last year. The link below explains the tax payer funding I believe is being spoken of. I think it's wrong. There is an urgent need for tort reform.

I have a more indepth book in my library with the ACLU's origin and history entitled, "Not OUR America...The ACLU ESPOSED!" It's a worthwhile read for anyone who thinks the ACLU has America's best interests at heart. One only need watch the daily news to understand the ACLU's true agenda.

 

As I've always understood it, attorneys who are members of the ACLU volunteer their time to represent clients in cases with civil liberties/rights issues. The "public funding" mentioned here is simply the receipt of legal fees for the work that the attorneys did on the case, not money funneled to the ACLU organization itself.

In other words, lawyers (who in this case are dues-paying members of the ACLU) are simply receiving compensation for the legal work they have done. Therefore, the ACLU is NOT taxpayer supported.

Look, all this is beside the point. Even if they're not tax payer funded, they're a corrupt organization that is slowly but surely demolishing many of your religious freedoms and rights. What are you going to do about it?

Since I am a Baptist an believe in the historical Baptist position of separation of church and state, I'm not very worried about the ACLU on religious liberty matters. I tend to agree with them more than the so-called "Christian" leadership in the evangelical world.

In other areas, I'm much less supportive of some of the classic ACLU positions.

Funding

The ACLU receives funding from a large number of sources. The distribution and amount of funding for state affiliates varies from state to state. For example, the ACLU of New Jersey reported $1.2 million in income to both the ACLU-NJ and its affiliated tax-exempt foundation in the 2005 fiscal year. Of that income, 46% came from contributions, 19% came from membership dues, 18% came from court awarded attorney fees, 12% came from grants, 4% came from investment income and the remainder from other sources. Its expenses in the same period were $800,000, of which 12% went to administration and management ACLU-NJ, Annual Report, ACLU-NJ, 2005. Smaller affiliates with fewer resources, such as that in Nebraska, receive subsidies from the national ACLU.[17]
