The American Gospel

There are two documentaries now produced. The first is titled, Christ Alone, and the second is titled, Christ Crucified. In Christ Alone the discussion is regarding the Prosperity Gospel. In Christ Crucified, the discussion revolves around Penal Substitution and the heretical views coming out of the Progressive Church that redefine terms such as Atonement, Christ and Justice. As I watched, it became clear that there are Progressive Christian thinkers here at the BB who use the same terms I do, but have radically different definitions of those terms.

Have you watched these documentaries on the American Gospel and if so, what are your thoughts.
(Until March 31, you can get the two documentaries for free from Truth for Life.)

I’ve watched both and
Enjoyed them both.

Sadly, even though they watch the films, I believe many in our congregations will not heed the warnings presented in the two shows.

Health and wealth Heresy seems now to be the default American Gospel!

The second documentary on the cross speaks even further to address the progressive church which has redefined the words traditional Christianity uses. For example, progressive Christianity has redefined what the word "Christ" not to mean Messiah, the chosen one, but to mean "devine person." Therefore, anyone can be Christ because the Bible says we are all gods, which means we are all devine beings, which means we all are Christ. Like Mormons and other intra-biblical cults, they use the same terms as classical Christianity, but the terms have entirely different meanings. This means that ignorant Christians can be sucked into this "cult" of progressive Christianity simply because they do not discern that a term has had its meaning changed.
We also see this progressive view when we see people rejecting penal substitutionary atonement. In progressive Christianity, Jesus death is not God the Son receiving God the Father's just and righteous wrath for our sin. They cannot accept that God the Father placed Jesus on the tree so He would take the curse of man, nor can they accept that Jesus willfully died to pay for that curse in our place. Instead, the atonement is established not by Jesus death, but by our repentance and God's forgiveness of our debt. They ask "How could a loving father ever kill an innocent son?".
For the progressive Christian, hell does not exist. Instead annihilationism is taught (have we not seen at least one person argue this here at the BB).
I highly recommend watching both documentaries. It has helped me recognize certain posters here who are clearly influenced by progressive Christianity in the US.
