The Ascension of Christ

I will be teaching on the ascension of Christ (and what difference it makes for the church today), and I am attempting to study up on the best works on the subject.

I already have an outline for the study based on my study of the New Testament (the ascended Christ in Acts, Hebrews, Ephesians, etc.), but I am looking for additional insight and perspectives since it is such a neglected doctrine in our churches.

Any suggestions on journal articles or books?

The Importance of the Ascension.

1. He sat down at the right hand of the Father thus showing the Father's acceptance of His life, death, and resurrection. Hebrews 10:11-14.

2. His intercessory ministry between the believer and the Father began. 1 John 2:1.

3. His rule over His enemies began. 1 Peter 3:22.

4. He empowered the church to accomplish its mission. Ephesians 1:22-23.

Good stuff!

I had not integrated the 1 Peter reference into my syllabus, thank you for calling it out.

I have been teaching through Luke's gospel and we are nearing the end (Luke 24 begins on Sunday), and I have been keeping the coronation of the Son of Man scene in Daniel 7:13-14 throughout much of the study. The full payoff of that emphasis will be the teaching of the ascension during the last lesson of the narrative, before I have the final capstone lesson to end the gospel of Luke study.

After that, I have been asked to do about six weeks on the Ascended Christ and the church today, then I'll dive into the Acts of the Apostles.
