I couldn’t begin to speculate the cause, but I do however have a story from personal experience.

I was in the US Navy from ’92-’96 and back in 1994 we were returning from deployment from the Red Sea and our ship lost all power for about 5 hours. I was a Quartermaster whose job was to plot the ships position using GPS and guess where we were? Smack dab in the middle of the Bermuda Triangle.

Was there any connection? I don’t know, but it was weird, because none of the engineers could determine the cause.

Oh and as much time I spent at sea, I was on a (FFG), I could speak of numerous weird lights in the night sky doing some pretty weird stuff. I’m not saying they were UFO’s because we were in the Gulf of Mexico and there are numerous Air Force and Naval Air Bases on the coast and it could’ve been experimental aircraft. BUT you never know…lol

 

Its nothing but alot of hype. Alleged dissappearances that never took place. Many of the ships perished in storms rather than "calm seas" as put forth by the advocates of the mystery. Also what is known as "communal reinforcement"

Communal reinforcement is the process by which a claim becomes a strong belief through repeated assertion by members of a community. The process is independent of whether the claim has been properly researched or is supported by empirical data significant enough to warrant belief by reasonable people. Often, the mass media contribute to the process by uncritically supporting the claims. More often, however, the mass media provide tacit support for untested and unsupported claims by saying nothing skeptical about even the most outlandish of claims.

 

I've heard credible reports that pockets of co2 are trapped under the dea floor there, and when the gas escapes, it's impossible for ships to float, or planes to fly.

On a side note, I've sailed through the triangle about 8 times, and I'm still here. (Much to the dismay of many)

 

hmmmmmmmm....... kinda like the resurrection of Jesus, huh???

For the record, like you, I too believe in the resurrection of Jesus, but I've heard many an atheist refute the resurrection using this same logic based reasoning that you state here for believing in things outside our limited understanding of our physical world and nature.

I'd rather find a natural instead of a supernatural reason for the happenings in the Bermuda Triangle.

I would like to conclude that there are forces as yet unknown that cause electro-magnetic disturbances in that region and can also fluctuate out of that region for short periods that would explain why many of those things happened. The co2 (or other gas) theory is perfectly logical and has been proven in the laboratory as being feesible. At any rate, none of us know for sure and it remains a mystery.

 

Seen any UFOs lately?

 

NONE...... never have and likely never will.

 

Ben, Like you I have seen the stories of the Bermuda Triangle on TV before and have speculated about what the truth is. I wonder how many ships went down here off the coast of Hatteras during the same period of time (1492-2001) or in the North Atlantic during the same time period. My guess is just as many or more -so what can I prove - well, nothing. If any body of water was subject to the same scrutiny would it not yield about the same results? Bruce

Thank you for telling us about your experience.

I think there is some reason for it; a magnetic fluctuation or some kind of mineral that is playing off certain equipment.

I've seen mother nature do some wild things.

I'm glad the Lord let you folks keep on sailing though.

 

actually BruceB they do keep and compare stats in different waters - of course I'll freely admit statistics can be manipulated

Thats why the Bermuda Triangle is still around - there is a lesser triangle that almost approaches the amount of losses of Bermuda but not quite

 

All I know is that show back in the late 70's that came on every week scared the tar out of me as 10 or 11yr.old Remember that show?

 

Don't you all know there's a giant sea monster in that region called the Bermuda Triangle which has to surface every now and then and breathe fire onto one of those passing verhicles then eat the roasted 2-legged creatures aboard of them? He gets hungry and bored down at the sea bottom, you know. But he takes all that metal wreckage and is still in the process of building a new home down there to replace his big cave, so he won't have to wrestle so many octopi that surprise him any more.

 

I thought his name was PUFF!
