The Confused Arminian

So, today the sky is blue, the birds are chirping, and spring is in the air. What a great day to get saved. I think I will take the dog for a walk, then skip to my lou down to the church, and say the sinners prayer, and volia, I am saved. We can schedule the Baptism for next Sunday. God, I have this under control, just send the Holy Spirit to guide me and I will not bother You again.

I cannot believe anyone would fall for the Calvinism. The only point I agree with is that I cannot lose my salvation.

To which deserves the reply, why is it you can choose if and when your salvation is effective, but you cannot choose to reverse your salvation? So which is it, can you choose, or not choose? Does the day of the week dictate it? Seems kind of confusing.

Simple if someone is concerned about their salvation, that Jesus can't finish what He started in them, they really do not believe in Jesus. I am sorry but it is the truth.

The unbelievers do not care about eternal salvation, the one's who care is their love one's and they will believe anything that gives them hope for them. Talk about being emotional.

Hebrews 3:
Warning Against Unbelief

7 So, as the Holy Spirit says:

“Today, if you hear his voice,
8 do not harden your hearts
as you did in the rebellion,
during the time of testing in the wilderness,
9 where your ancestors tested and tried me,
though for forty years they saw what I did.
10 That is why I was angry with that generation;
I said, ‘Their hearts are always going astray,
and they have not known my ways.’
11 So I declared on oath in my anger,
‘They shall never enter my rest.’ ”[Psalm 95:7-11]

12 See to it, brothers and sisters, that none of you has a sinful, unbelieving heart that turns away from the living God. 13 But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called “Today,” so that none of you may be hardened by sin’s deceitfulness. 14 We have come to share in Christ, if indeed we hold our original conviction firmly to the very end. 15 As has just been said:

“Today, if you hear his voice,
do not harden your hearts
as you did in the rebellion.”[Psalm 95:7,8]

16 Who were they who heard and rebelled? Were they not all those Moses led out of Egypt? 17 And with whom was he angry for forty years? Was it not with those who sinned, whose bodies perished in the wilderness? 18 And to whom did God swear that they would never enter his rest if not to those who disobeyed? 19 So we see that they were not able to enter, because of their unbelief.

There are no Arminians worth their weight in salt who see getting saved this way. No one, outside of God drawing them, will want to be saved.

You will have to confirm this with SN but it looks like he is aping the Arminians he is most familiar with .... namely the SBC variety.

I love it how you seem to think all the problems with the modern church are localized and most prominent in the SBC...

C'mon Saturneptune, I thought you said you weren't going to get involved in the Calvinism/Armenian debates? A staple of these debates are mischaracterizing the opposing viewpoint and you've done wonderfully!

Anyway the perpetrators don't need any help.

Maybe it's time for me to post my list of hymns that have been ripped out of the Calvinist hymnal, you know songs like:

I Am Resolved
I Have Decided to Follow Jesus
Let Jesus Come Into Your Heart
Whosoever, Meaneth Me
If You Will Only Let God Guide You
I Surrender All
I Know Whom I Have Believed

etc. etc.

This is not the Arminian position that you have laid out, so the title of your thread is in error.

There is nothing inconsistent in most of these hymns with Calvinism. All you have to do is ask this simple question- Why?

I am resolved- Why? Because the Lord has made me thus. As Scripture says, "It is GOD which worketh in you BOTH to WILL and to do of his good pleasure."

I have decided to follow Jesus- Why?

Because the "Lord hath made me willing in the day of his power"

Whosoever Surely Meaneth Me
- Why?

Because whosoever DOES call upon the name of the Lord does so BECAUSE he is elect.

Etc, etc, etc....

You, and Thomas, and Convicted should know me well enough to know that this thread was a satire to oppose the thread called "the Conflicted Calvinist." I have a right to act as brain damaged as the person who started the other thread.

Well, sorry then.

But maybe it's just that you're not as a good an actor as you think. :tongue3:

Totally off subject, but I won an award for acting in High School. No joke.

Our Senior class divided up into groups that had to make a TV show. I was placed in a group with all females, I was allowed to shut up and do what I was told. :tongue3:

We made a Police detective story. I was a policeman in one short scene. I had to search a room for about 1 minute while two others carried out a conversation. I then found the murder weapon (a pistol) and spoke my one line in the show:

I found it.

Yep, that was it.

At the end of the year they gave out awards for the shows. I was surprised when they called my name, but I was even more surprised when they announced my award was for

WORST ACTOR

Man, I was shattered. I always thought I would be a great actor. I blame the writers.

It took awhile, but I am proud of my award now. Of all the bad actors, I was #1.

What is not found in them?

All the explanations you gave are not a part of the songs. You're rationalizing them.

I am resolved- Why? Because the Lord has made me thus. As Scripture says, "It is GOD which worketh in you BOTH to WILL and to do of his good pleasure."

I have decided to follow Jesus- Why?

Because the "Lord hath made me willing in the day of his power"

Does this sound like Calvinistic theology?:

I will hasten to Him, hasten so glad and free;
Jesus, greatest, highest, I will come to Thee.
I will hasten, hasten to Him, hasten so glad and free;
Jesus, Jesus, greatest, highest, I will come to Thee.

You did your job too well.

I know you well enough to spot your satire right off. I ought to recognize it, I've been your target often enough (with good humor, of course).

But obviously some others took you seriously. From now on, you might want me to follow your posts with explanations, such as Folks, this is satire. Or, Folks, SN is being serious, here.

Uh, naw, I've changed my mind. I don't need a full-time job. I'm supposed to be retired.
