If what I just read in chris' link is true and I have no doubt that it is I'll not be using it for anything more than to have a copy of it in my library. While I don't like other versions of the bible I know that it is sinful to present either KJ or any other version fallaciously just to make a point or puff myself up. It appears that is exactly what this DKJV is.

The Defined KJV is simply a KJV with archaic or hard to understand words defined at the bottom of the page using dictionaries, the original Hebrew or Greek, or other theological resources.

There are some things added in the back of the DKJV that are pretty one sided, but they are not part of the bible, and as with all such things, can be viewed with as much credence or as little as the reader wishes.

If you want to use a KJV and have trouble understanding some of the archaic words, the DKJV would be a good investment.

Actually, the best "defined" KJV I have found for sale is from Nelson and is a personal size, large print KJV with end of verse references and alt. translations. These are well-placed (and not 6 pt font) so a quick glance at the end of the verse will easily define an archaic word or two.

See it at CBD: KJV Giant Print Personal Size Bible, Bonded leather, black ;)

The "Open Bible" from Nelson contains a "read along" definition of archaic words also. The words follow each verse, in the space between the last word of the verse and the margin. The Open Bible is also a great investment just for the Cyclopedic Index. A great resourse book. I am not sure if it comes in other versions. [IMG]

My two favorite bibles are from nelson. one is the 2005 it has a center reference colum that helps with the words as well as references to other scripture that relates. And I have and mostly use a new open study bible from them. And yes if you look at thier maps and the exodus you will notice that the nation of Israel would have to work real hard to get wet using any of the routes listed.

And thank you for clarifing about the DKJV.

I,ve worn the covers off of four schofield reference bibles. I just bought the large print edition about a month ago. (eyes gettin weak). Just cant seem to get used to any other. I Like the way it is layed out with the outlines and all and agree with about 90% of the notes.

LOL! I use the large print (not giant print) Scofield too. I can read it from the pulpit without putting on my reading glasses. [IMG]

The Open Bible has about the most pleasing format and type of all Bibles I've seen. I'm wearing out my second Open NKJV. It is also available in the NLT Paraphrase (which kinda defeats the original purpose of the Open Bible!)

I've been a Scofield Bible man all my life and I, too, find the print getting smaller and smaller!

Which large print edition do any suggest? Some Scofields did not hold up well; the loose leaf was never recommended by any friend. Do they have a GOOD QUALITY large print?

(When not preaching, I take the New Geneva Study Bible -NKJV-, but MY-OH-MY the print is TINY and I can't read it even with bifocals)

i wonder who this "rabid anti KJV activist" is.

which part of the review wasn't accurate?

does he or she have a bone w the DKJB's text itself, besides what's "not part of the bible"?

    To all concerned,
The Defined King James Bible, was the work of Dr. D.A. Waite, a close personal friend of mine. And I can assure you that his intentions in the work were honorable. He simply wanted to remove the excuse that many offer that they do not read a KJV because of the old English words that are no longer used or have chaged their meaning, and since most are unwilling to go get a dictionary to help,Dr. Waite simply removed the need for one. Though I admit I do not use it,I prefer the Old Scofield Reference Bible, one could use this Bible format and know that the man putting it out is balanced and fair in his approach. If I were to fault Dr. Waite in any area it would be that he worries a little to much about not pushing away evangelical scholars by being to strong on the KJV issue.
