Polls would say Christianity and some here would agree. But I have been witnessing person to person in my area on the streets and the majority want nothing to do with Christianity. They are secular humanists whom do not claim any religious faith but they themselves are the center of attention.

But even if polls say Christianity one cannot include Catholics and progressive Christians in the number since these are not real Christians. So what say you?

I say anecdotal evidence is not an accurate picture of the nation as a whole.

Some people think they are Christian without having any ideal what it means.
For example, "I was baptized into a Christian church" or "my parents are Christians," and ect.

From a secular definition of "Christian" I suppose we are
For a Biblical definition, we are not.

It really depends on where you are. In my area, the two major religions are Catholicism and Judaism. But the vast majority in each one I'd call "cultural" rather than a real follower of the religion because they believe it with all of their hearts. Most go to church only on the high holy days and that's really about it. Their faith plays no role in their day to day lives.

If you click the link, it explains it. It is essentially American civil religion and crosses traditional denominational/religious boundaries. It is characterized by:
    1. A god exists who created and ordered the world and watches over human life on earth.
    2. God wants people to be good, nice, and fair to each other, as taught in the Bible and by most world religions.
    3. The central goal of life is to be happy and to feel good about oneself.
    4. God does not need to be particularly involved in one's life except when God is needed to resolve a problem.
    5. Good people go to heaven when they die.
The original concept was called "moralistic therapeutic deism" (like the wiki is entitled), but the second half of point #1 contradicts any traditional concept of deism.

Belief in a deity, I imagine would be a major point of distinction.

Humanism asserts that man is the measure of all things. In contrast, the beliefs I cited affirm a deity, although that deity tends to be around only to manage stuff (or be blamed) that is perceived to be outside of our human control like death, what other people do, natural disasters, lack of a parking space, etc. There's a fair amount of lip-service paid to this deity, but little faith.

You picked up on the fact that it is extremely human-centered, but it differs from humanism in the sense that the adherent is thought to be a "spiritual" person.

I deal with this every day, both inside and outside of church here in the Bible belt. I also have to actively resist the pull to fall into step with its rhythms.

It is a gospel where Christ is a mascot and sacrifice given for our indulgence, but certainly not Teacher and Lord.

Your standard idiotic response is why most times we leave you to twist in the wind.
My response to the OP was quite accurate. The OP asked what "religion"?
Look up stats on superb bowl sunday as to how many people watch it as compared to attendance on night service at all churches in the country.
Sports and entertainment is the god here now.
I guess if ray comfort does not write a book on it it cannot be true.

Icon - In our area, I'd also say soccer. What do you see every Sunday morning on the way to church? Soccer fields FULL of children and parents.
