LETS READ THE TEXT Isaiah 53:5-8

Simply reading the account of the Lord’s crucifixion in the Gospels:
Doesn’t relate to us....the full scope of what happened to the Lord:

But Isaiah’s prophecy will help us to get a clearer picture!

V.5A “But”
-A LITTLE REMINDER.....OF LAST WEEKS PASSAGE-
(And the description...it gave of our Lord

In light of the low expectations...people had of Jesus:
Today we are now going to see:
All that He...was able to accomplish!
==============
V.5B “he [was] wounded”
-THE GREAT PRICE....OUR LORD PAID FOR US-
(While being God’s Son
------------------------
“wounded” Lit.(profaned, defiled, polluted, desecrated)
--------------------------------------------------
Simply reading the account of the crucifixion:
Can not reveal to us what Jesus went through:

This Hebrew word translated “wounded”:
Is also found in Leviticus.....
See Leviticus 19:29
“Do not prostitute thy daughter, to cause her to be a whore;
lest the land fall to whoredom, and the land become full of wickedness.”
The word.... “prostitute”
This is just how defiled the Lord was on the cross!

V.5C “for our transgressions,”
-A PARTICULAR KIND OF SIN....THAT THIS COVERED-
(The sin of rebellion
“transgressions” Lit.(Rebellion)

By the Lord being...profaned and defiled:
We were forgiven for our rebellion!

V.5D “[he was] bruised”
-PART OF SATAN’S PLAN....FOR OUR LORD’S CRUCIFIXION-
(For the Lord....to be “demoralized”
Of course...Satan didn’t know what was going to happen:

“bruised” Lit.(Broken or Crushed)
--------------------------------------------------
Satan though that this would cause God:
To turn His back on mankind...once & for all!

V.5E “for our iniquities:”
-THE KINDS OF SINS...THAT CRUSHING THE LORD...COVERED-
(The depravity of...sexual sins
------------------------
“iniquities” Lit.(perverseness)
--------------------------------------------------
Therefore.....the “blood of Jesus”:
Crushes.....this sinful desire in us!

V.5F “the chastisement of our peace [was] upon him;”
-THE ONLY WAY....WE COULD HAVE PEACE WITH GOD-
(Was for our sins....to be punished
------------------------
And they were punished....in Jesus:
--------------------------------------------------
When these things...were done to Him:
God counted them as....being done to us!

V.5G “and with his stripes we are healed.”
-THE LORD’S....LITERAL SUBSTITUTION FOR US-
(Because each of us....have an incurable disease
------------------------
We are sinners:
--------------------------------------------------
And by the punishment inflicted upon the Lord:
Our sin-sickness can be cured!

V.6A “All we like sheep have gone astray;”
-GOD’S DESCRIPTION....OF WHAT SIN HAS DONE TO US-
(We are like sheep
Who are in need of a shepherd:
--------------------------------------------------
Because we are....foolish and stupid:
And have turned our back on the LORD!
==============
V.6B “we have turned every one to his own way;”
-THE WRONG PLACE....TO LOOK FOR SOLUTIONS-
(Ourselves
------------------------
This is what got us into trouble in the first place:
--------------------------------------------------
Because of our sin...all of our solutions will fail!
==============
V.6C “and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.”
-THE LORD’S WORSE EXPERIENCE....AT THE CROSS-
(Having our sin....placed upon Him
--------------------------------------------------
-THE WORSE PART....ABOUT HAVING OUR SINS LAID ON HIM-
Worse than anything...Satan could have done:
------------------------
It forced the Father.....to turn His back on Him!

V.7A “He was oppressed, and he was afflicted,”
-THE ROUGH TREATMENT....OUR LORD SUFFERED-
(Being pushed around...and made fun of
--------------------------------------------------
This normally....wouldn’t seem very bad:
But it was being done....to “God’s Son”!

V.7C “yet he opened not his mouth:”
-THE LORD’S QUIET RESPONSE.....TO ALL THIS BAD TREATMENT-
(Not one complaint
--------------------------------------------------
Because He trusted......His Father’s will.
==============
V.7D “he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter,”
-THE LORD’S PASSIVE RESPONSE......THROUGH THIS WHOLE PROCESS-
(Not trying to escape
Or pleading for His life:
--------------------------------------------------
This even surprised...Pilate!
==============
V.7E “and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth.”
-THE LORD’S SUBMISSIVE RESPONSE....TO THIS EVENT-
(He knew what was happening and why
--------------------------------------------------
Therefore...He voluntarily submitted to it!
==============
V.8A “He was taken from prison and from judgment:”
-THE SOLDIER’S RESPONSE....TO HIS COOPERATION-
(They violently restrained Him
After He had been condemned by Pilate!
------------------------
“prison” Lit. (oppression)
==============
V.8B “and who shall declare his generation?”
-A QUESTION THE WORLD ASKS....IN LIGHT OF THIS DEFEAT-
(Who would dare...to identify themselves with Him?)
--------------------------------------------------
This is the shame....of the cross!

V.8C “for he was cut off out of the land of the living:”
-THE TRUE STATE....IN WHICH OUR LORD DIED-
(Not ever....ceasing to exist
None of us will do that:
----------------------
But he was simply...leaving the land of the living!
--------------------------------------------------
This is how “God”...was able to die!

V.8D “for the transgression of my people was he stricken.”
-THE ONE AND ONLY REASON...THIS HAPPEN TO HIM-
(In order to.....fix our sin problem
--------------------------------------------------
To give each of us...an opportunity to be saved!
