The Evangelist

The 2 Timothy passage seems to me to portray an evangelist as one who preaches the word and stands true to Biblical Doctrine despite what the rest of the world does. I just happened to be reading that passage the other day and actually thought about this very question. This is the only passage that comes to mind on the spur of the moment that mentions the office of evangelist.

The Tim. passage tells Timothy (who was the pastor) to do the work of an evangelist, if memory serves me.

The Ephesian passage mentions the evangelist as one of the "gifts of men" that Christ has given to His church to build it up and strengthen it for service. I don't know that it is an "office" in the way that "pastor" and "deacon" are considered offices of the church. I do believe there are some churches that do view it that way, however.

peace to you:praise:

You're right

Ok, I stand corrected..it is not an office. Good point. The only one who is an evangelist by name in the whole Bible is Philip I noticed:type:
