The faith of Jesus?

What verse/verses are you refering to?

I cannot see how either the Father or the Son (or the Holy Spirit, for that matter) needs faith of any kind. When one is omnipotent, faith is not required.

 

I've read commentaries on this that the word in some of those could be "faithfulness." I've read it's hard to tell sometimes whether the word should be "faith" or "faithfulness" because it depends on other words in the sentence that have to do with grammar.

You should always check something like this in other versions. I don't think God or Jesus need faith.

Here's how the NASB renders these verses (NIV and ESV are similar).

 

To assert that the verses above speak of the faith of Christ is very near the Word Faith heresy, which holds that God created the heavens and the earth by speaking "faith-filled words." Be careful here.

Sorry, Joseph, I was making a general comment, not aimed at anybody.

 

In the liberal theology of the 1920's and 1930's, there was an effort to distignuish betweent the faith OF Jesus and faith IN Jesus. The faith OF Jesus was summarized as the ways in which he expressed his trust in the Father, whereas faith IN Jesus was characterized as the Pauline concept of relating to God through Christ. Of course now this is discredited as an artificial distinction.

Still, there is merit in the idea that Jesus was a person of faith, if we understand faith as a trusting relationship to God. Faith is not, by this understanding, believing in the absence of evidence. It is simply trusting that the Presence is with us to guide us. One can understand the Incarnate Christ as being perfectly faith-filled in His walk with the Father, but still human and therefore limited in his "brain-knowledge" of what was happening around him.
