The Fine Line

Prov 17:15 He that justifieth the wicked, and he that condemneth the just, even they both are abomination to the LORD.

This is a verse that has always captivated my attention. The line is so fine, and yet so perfectly divided. The crime of justifying a wicked man is EQUAL to the crime of condemning a just man.

Many will find they are more prone to one side or the other, having their reasons, but both sides are equally condemned. It sure makes one really want to consider things properly.

This may verse very well apply to those who are in a God-given position of authority and who make a mockery of justice. Earthly rulers are God's human authority; when men mock them, they are mocking God. Ham mocking Noah and then being severely cursed is a good example. Likewise, when earthly rulers make a mockery of justice, they are doing that which is an abomination to God because they are showing disdain for God's authority.

This could apply to civil authorities as well as parents, pastors, and other positions of authority.
