The great irony of the day

President Obama is being pressed to act quickly on the crisis in Ukraine amid accusations that his administration is straddling the fence, as dozens more people were killed Thursday in clashes on the streets of Kiev.

Amid reports that possible sanctions may be on the fast track, White House spokesman Josh Earnest said Thursday that "a range of options is being actively considered at the White House."

But so far, the public face of the administration's policy toward Ukraine has consisted mostly of phone calls with foreign leaders and public statements. John Bolton, former ambassador to the United Nations, suggested Obama's stance to date is far too mild considering what's at stake.
Def. Sec'y Chuck Hagel's call to the Ukraine military complex in Kiev was refused -- no one would talk to him.

Slipping away by the second, she lies cradled in the arms of the motorbike rider who faces a desperate – and ultimately futile – race against time to save her life.

Moments earlier, Genesis Carmona had been an ordinary 22-year-old woman on a street in the Venezuelan city of Valencia. Then she was shot in the head by an unidentified gunman who opened fire at anti-government protesters. Genesis Carmona, who won the title of 'Miss Tourism' in her home state of Carabobo, was rushed into emergency surgery but later died of horrific injuries.
Venezuelan protestors are rioting against the authoritarian rule of the successor to Hugo Chavez and demanding a return to democracy, the same issue in Ukraine 7,000 miles away. At least six others, besides the beauty queen, have died in the protests there.

The "great irony"?? The people of Ukraine and Venezuela are taking to the streets, risking their lives, their safety, their freedoms, to demand democracy. But here in the United States of America, the very cradle of democracy, we are letting a Little Marxist Dictator steal it from us!!

Why are we not doing something?

Due credit to Odrama, he said they better not cross the line. What, nor where the line is was left out - probably so he can deny it in a few days.

If people ever rise up here they need to play his words over and over as to how terrible it is for police to fire on their own people!

Uprising in America? Gunna have to be the old guys - most of the young have been brainwashed at school.

Funny. Where have I heard that "line" thing before? Let me see; oh, yeah: Syria.

The great irony here is that if d-CON is not promoting blind allegiance to Likud, he is fomenting revolt right here in the states....

The revolt needs to occur with the upcoming midterm elections, like it did in 1994.

Impeach him. Quickly.

DCONN....the natural state of man is war....that's why I support a strong military however there needs to be a purpose to it. In the economic state the US of A is in, what plausable benefit would we have to go to war with a country (Russia) that has nothing to offer us except some oil fields and possibly borscht?

I think we can cut the American voters some slack for initially electing B.O. but they also re-elected him. They also elected a majority of Senate Dems. So we cannot lawfully bring about change and hope until the election of 2016.

We might take a majority in the Senate in 2014, but there would still be more than 1/3 needed to block conviction for not faithfully executing the laws.

So we sit and wait and and wait and wait. Rick's cafe anyone?

I'm talking about impeaching the Little Marxist Dictator in the White House. That's the plaint of the OP, that the people of Ukraine and Venezuela are fighting for democratic rule, while we are throwing ours away.
