The hatred the unregenerate have towards God

In another thread, a poster posted this..

but God credited their wholehearted love and devotion to Christ as righteousness

I find such a notion void of any proper biblical exegesis. First off, our (self)righteousness is filthy rags(see menstrual cloth). Secondly, the unregenerate hate God, yea rather, are His enemies.

Sooooooo, how can an enemy of God, who hates Him, have a wholehearted love and devotion towards Christ, and then be credited with righteousness?? Cautious
