It amazes me that most people do not know this basic stuff. Equally as interesting is how the Rev. J. Jackson became pro choice.
I am trying to remember his name. I met him at a SCV gathering several years ago.
You left out Nixon's Southern Policy whereby the GOP took over the South with racist attractions that brought southern voters into the GOP camp. This is the modern inconvenient truth concerning the GOP.
Nope, though as you point out the GOP's southern strategy date from the late 60s-early 70s. While the Democrats' dates from 1830.
I agree. Lincoln and the GOP in his times represented liberal positions as did one of my favorite presidents, Teddy Roosevelt, who founded the National Parks system. Now the Republican party wants to allow drilling for oil on national park lands when we don't need to do that anymore. America is already a net exporter of oil. This kind of activity would do great damage to what's been called the "Jewels of America."Historically that is correct. However, the parties have switched sides. As Lyndon Johnson said when the Civil Rights bill past, "We have lost the South for a generation". He was wrong. With that passage they lost the South for generations. Nixon took advantage of this as has the GOP. Modern history puts the KKK, white supremacists and other racist groups in the GOP camp and it is the GOP camp.
That is an inconvenient modern truth for the GOP.
Honest question. Do you guys think today's KKK are a bunch of liberals who voted for Hillary? How about Obama? John Kerry?
What exactly are we supposed to do with this stupid thread? Can we get real here?
Historically that is correct. However, the parties have switched sides.
CTB, I'm a Republican and I'm not a racist. I'm a Westerner and a native San Franciscan. San Francisco was a Union town back in the Day. However, today, my choices are either a Republican or a Nancy Pelosi clone. My Congressman for many years was the late Tom Lantos.
