You really challenge my thinking, and I appreciate that. I'm a meat and potato kind of guy!

 

I listened to the whole thing and while I agree the Gospel message of sin and repentance are not dealt with as they should be in many calls to salvation (or not at all in some), it was sad at many of his mischarictorizations, generalizations and such.

Editted out previous statements to simply say: He is much a kin for the 'Evangelicals' to Dave Hunt in portraying what and how the other side sees their views. The other side states it is mostly distortion, he is misunderstanding, or that he hasn't really studied what the other side believes.

He makes many blanket statements as though he was definitive in his opinion and is very much incorrect.
There is just so much that was incorrect with much of what he is saying to address here.

BUT - I will say that I agree the message typically given today and the manner is which we present salvation is in great need repremanding.

I also wondered greatly at the beginning when he stated he was searching (concerning salvation) for 14 years? Unless I misunderstood him in this: It seemed he was stating He desired this salvation but it took 14 years of study to come to it. Was he born again (in the Calvinistic view) fro 14 years till he finally believed? As I said I might have misunderstood him here.

I ALSO agree , that we are to give the scripture (present the Gospel - which include sin, repentence, believe) and leave the rest to God.

AND I AGREE, that in presenting the Gospel we need to present the Holiness of God that they may know their sin.

 

I agree many have gone the 'easy believism' route and there DOES need to be a returning to a more biblical presentation of our sin, His righteousness, and The Judgment to come, as well as repentence and faith upon this revelation or illumination of The Truth.

From what? Exactly from WHAT must we be saved?

Reformed, if I didn't like you, I wouldn't poke fun.... of course, Reformed is the ONLY person here I've ever poked fun at..... which means that Reformed is the only person around here I like......

 

....which is not true. I like all the brethren here and I've learned quite a bit.

But I must say that we must never shy away from warning people about the reality of the Lake of Fire whenever we present the gospel, cuz if we don't we sound like someone who says:

The crossing guard loves you. He has a big STOP sign he holds out. He wants to protect you. He loves you. But then that certain someone never tells you about the real dangers of being in front of a moving car! A person who cares would tell you about the crossing guard and that he's there to keep you from getting smashed.
