Are there any other left behind series lovers! Im not much of a novel reader and found these stories based on the book of revelations to be truly facinating. It also helps me understand what the book of revelations is about a little more easily.

    In christ,
    Hailey

    Hailey,

Do a search on here their have been various discussions on the LEFT BEHIND series.

I for one dove in feet first and read all ten books mosting finishing each one in two days.

Study Bible prophecy from the Bible I think you will find that Lahaye is offering his side and that you will find many that are not pretribbers but post tribbers and much debate on both sides. I found that it was just a good introduction to prophecy and then I started researching the Bible for myself on prophecy.

I have also given the book to a friend that is not saved as an introduction and a warning of what is going to come.

    May God Bless

    Jon

    Hailey Marie,
When I was witnessing to my husband(Bible Beliving Bill) I used those books as a tool to get him interested in Christ. Bill loves science fiction [IMG] . I recieved a copy of the movie from my Pastor's wife I got Bill to watch it with me. I told him who was in it to spark a interest then after the movie I closed with saying " you know the book IS alwys better than the movie". He went out the next day and bought the book. He read through the series then final a year of watching me grow and God working on him he got saved. Praise the Lord. Then he went through the books again and couldn't believe how it was impacting him. Then he said one of the sweetest things to me "Thanks for never giving up on me.For praying for me." [IMG] I love him very much. I thank the Lord daily for giving me him.
    Jeanne.

This is an example of how God can use anything to His Glory. However, you should be careful with these books and other Christian "Fiction" books. The bad thing about fictionizing the Bible is that it can cause people to not look at the Bible as truth, but as fiction. Also, there are a several problems with the LB series. ie...they teach that people who had a chance to get saved before the Rapture can still be saved after the Rapture, and this is simply not true. They also teach that salvation in the Tribulation is the same as it is now, and that is also not true. Here is a great Bible study on the LB series. I encourage you to read it and pray about this. I used to be a HUGE LB series fan, until someone shared this with me.

</font>[/QUOTE]Thanks for the link. I was aware of some of the concerns but not all of them. I agree that it would not make a good study in a Bible College, nor would it be a good movie for a special occasion evening church service, but, it is fiction and it is not gospel. I enjoyed the series as an entertainment and not instruction. It sure beats what is coming out of Hollywood and the rest of the New York Times best seller list.

They also only present one millenial view, one millions ofchristians do not share.

It is a work of fiction and does belong in the science fiction/fantasy section of the library, not the theology section

I'm not a fan of the books or films, but have read a couple, did not find them very convincig.

    Regards
    Bob

Don't care for movie or books:</font>
    • It is a docu-drama that purports to be based in fact (rapture, tribulation) and then exaggerates or adds totally fictional material</font>
    • It is a cash-cow for the authors, who are milking readers by greatly expanding a simple topic to add more and more books to their original plan</font>
    • It is poor literature, poorly written (and the movies are worse)</font>
    • It teaches false doctrine</font>
    So, caveat emptor!

I thought the first 2 or 3 were intresting reads, but they seem to be getting worse. Should have been done in no more than 8 books. Like most said, read them as fiction only.

I just received something i from my local Christian book store. The new book is titled "Armageddon" And it is due out in early April.

I wonder if they will continue the series after the glorious appearing? (in the books, not here on earth)

the following are good books that includes prophecy:

    1. The Divine Outline of History
    2. Anti-Semitism (contains good details on what will happen to the Jews come the tribulation, before Jesus Christ gets to save them!)

these books are free upon request. look at the Berachah Church Website and you'll see some more.

i also have a book from Hal Lindsey entitled: "There's a New World Coming", which is a detailed discussion on the whole of Revelation, with some practical insights based on what is "happening around". i've read that his book "The Late Great Planet Earth" has caught the attentions of so many people, but i find it hard to find a copy of it.

Tim LaHaye and Jerry Jenkins have wrecked more havoc on pretribulational teaching than O.J. ever did in Brentwood. They are an embarrassment. I am so ashamed.

If someone would have done this, it should have been one or two books with an actual theologian and not some wannabe psychologist and a fluff writer.

The books are, as Dr Bob so eloquently put it, a waste of paper. (Ever notice that in secular bookstores, these prophecy books are right-next to the books on UFO's and crop-circles?)

For anyone who would like to 'reap' from this-kind of theology, I offer the following item to market in Christian bookstores throughout America. (You can give me 10% of the profits [IMG] )
Design something called THE RAPTURE HELMET! Think of it...you're in a 40-story building, you're a Christian, and the Lord's trumpet sounds! What are you going to do, go through 40 floors of concrete and steel? OUCH! But with the RAPTURE HELMET, you're protected! I think it's a great idea, don't you??? :D

I have tried several times to get "into" Left Behind but have never made it more than about 50 pages into vol. 1 before I got sidetracked by a new Terry Pratchett or something. If I were less amillenial I suppose I might find it possible to overcome my lack of appreciation for the turgid style.

I did, however, greatly enjoy Right Behind, which has that virtue of wit, brevity, and manages to make the same turgidity I met in the series opener actually readably funny! I have a hunch Jude might like it, if he hasn't yet read it.

Well, I enjoyed reading them. So I guess all your belittling comments about people who like this sort of thing I could justifyably take personally. :(

I must admit I have never read the series. I did pick up a copy a friend brought to a church picnic and read about half of the book while I was there to see what it was about (yeah, I know I'm a real party animal).

I came away with the impression that it was like popcorn. Smells good, Tastes good, but not really satisfying. I never finished the book or read another.

NOW MY DAUGHTER... she doesn't read much, (that must have come from my wife's side of the family), anyway she picked up the book and can't put it down! She has been encouraged to witness for Christ at her work by reading the book. Even her Jewish friends want to read it. THAT EXCITES ME! Praise the LORD! [IMG]
