The Liberal Lie - The Conservative Truth

Reagan always could deliver one-liners. After all, he was a (B grade) actor.
This is the only President in 40+ years that even tried to be conservative and notice there was a Constitution. Tell me, just who do you think has run us so well. Here are your choices.
A. Carter
B. Bush the First
C. Clinton
D. Bush the Second
E. Obama

It sure wasn't Carter (a dud when he was president and still a dud) and for sure it isn't Obama (a diva).

I don't think Reagan was a fiscal conservative, given the deficits he ran up. He was more of a "feel good" president, which is not a bad thing.

Reagan had to undo the years of work by the "pinko" democrats like McGovern and McCarthy who wanted to cave to their soul mates in the Soviet Union. Instead Reagan rebuilt the military and whupped up on the Commies. Now both parties seem to want to cave to Commie China!

So, let me make sure I understand you. It is bad for President Obama to mention the mess he inherited from Bush 4 months ago; yet President Reagan gets a pass for 8 years of deficit spending, and 20 years after he left office.

Interesting partisan logic you have there, OR.

Who controlled the House and the Senate when Reagan was president?

Remember that line the next time you try to defend Bush's deficits.

You must remember it is the president who proposes the budgets and who has the final say by approving or disapproving them. Reagan ran huge deficits and it was his doing. Being an actor is a great ability for a politician.

Reagan really didn't care one way or the other about abortion. He cut a deal with the then Pope. He agreed to cut off funding and the Pope agreed not to oppose the US putting a new generation of missiles in Europe. It was all politics. Of course Reagan played to the religious right on this and it did help him.

Also remember he and Nancy had an astrologer in the White House often. So much for conservative Christian beliefs.

Have a blessed day.

Reagan talked the talk that conservatives wanted to hear. I think he was a good leader but lacked the insight and knowledge to understand or act on the real issues. His two principle objectives were to reduce the size of the government and to reduce the national debt. In fact, he did neither. He increased the size of government and the national debt through what GHW Bush called voodoo economics.

Federal government spending was a quarter higher in real terms when Reagan left office than when he entered. As a share of GDP, the federal government shrank from 22.2 percent to 21.2 percent—a whopping one percentage point. The federal civilian work force increased from 2.8 million to 3 million.

If a POTUS were to veto everything that came to his desk he would in effect stop all spending. However every POTUS has an agenda that he wants to fund. Reagan's was having a strong military. To get what he needed he had to take what the Congress would give him. Congress knew that they would get their agenda through pork barrel additions. It was not long before we started hearing about a push for term limits and the line item veto. Both of these (especially that of the line item veto) takes power from Congress (term limits, IMHO, weakens Congress).

All of this said, with the tax cutting policies that Reagan got passed, Bill Clinton benefited from a strong sound economy and the deficits were erased as more revenue came in as more jobs were added.

Once upon a time, in the land of neocon fantasy . . .
with the tax cutting policies that Reagan got passed, Bill Clinton benefited from a strong sound economy and the deficits were erased as more revenue came in as more jobs were added.
Then the handsome prince and princess lived happily ever after.

Actually, Clinton took the goodwill, and allowed NAFTA to suck our manufacturing jobs to other countries. This, along with the Iraq war he helped start, were both blamed on Bush, with the help of the fairy tale media.

Bush is the one who pushed hard for the invasion. Bush is the one who sent in ground troops. It will forever be knows as the war Bush started. This is his legacy.

It appears we have a psychic on the Forum, I hope not an astrologer!

Joan Quigley (born April 10, 1927), of San Francisco, is an astrologer best known for her astrological advice to the Reagan White House in the 1980s. Quigley was born in Kansas City, Missouri.

She was called on by First Lady Nancy Reagan in 1981 after John Hinckley's attempted assassination of the president, and stayed on as the White House astrologer in secret until being outed in 1988 by ousted former chief of staff Donald Regan.

This has been debunked a lot, but you will never admit that. The ignorant left, with it's cheerleaders Maddow, Olbermann, & Huffington, will call it that. People who desire the truth will learn something quite different. I said as much in my post you quoted, the fairy tale media.
