The mis-use of scripture on BB

The Bible tells us that all scripture is given for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness. . .In using the HOLY, INSPIRED word of God, should we not do so with humility and love for those with whom we disagree?

Lately, I'm seeing the word of God being used as a tool to abuse others. That is improper use of the scriptures, folks. When Bible verses are quoted out of context to bite and devour one another, that's called spiritual abuse. This includes using the Bible to demean women when they have an opposing viewpoint.

We need to be very careful with how we use and apply scripture. It is not to be taken lightly or to be used out of context to browbeat others. Respect for God and our fellow believers is demonstrated in how we use God's words.

I totally agree with you. It's a subtle form of bullying but making it "holy bullying" by misusing God's Word. I don't think God is pleased when that happens.

Absolutely agree.

I'm convinced at least a certain few lately are guilty of this, not in ignorance, but in full self-righteous knowledge. Much like the Pharisees in Christ's time.

Are those code words for stating that the Christians who hold to the Biblical concept of headship, and that men and women are equal but have differfent roles/positions in the church are wrong?

Nope. Not at all. But instead it's posting verses like the Timothy verse that speaks of women being silent instead of answering truthfully.

Right. Using scripture to call a woman contentious just to bully her is wrong. Scripture has also been mis-used to justify certain unkind behavior and then claim others "don't believe God's word" because they disagree with the manner in which the scripture was used.

I think we should be very careful in how we use the words of almighty God.

No. Unquestionably that passage has very limited scope, considering Mary of Magdala, Rhoda, Lydia, Priscilla, and the daughters of Philip. They didn't keep their mouths shut, as Jezebel in Revelation should have, trying to transfer the idea of temple prostitution into the church.

OK! that makes sense, its the use of the Bible on other extreme, trying to place women down in sense of no rights!

Right or instead of answering, just posting a verse from Proverbs about a fool or something like that. :)
