    As a believer in Jesus Christ what would you say is the number one most important thing that the Lord desires of you to do?

    To stay in a fresh/vital loving fellowship with him!

    For from that, all other things needing to do will spring from!

    I'm going to go with Jesus on this one and say: "Love God" is first. This could be put in other biblical words such as worship & fear God. But this is the greatest commandment. Love for neighbor, even in evangelism is driven by this first command to love and worship God.

    Matthew 22:36 "Teacher, which is the great commandment in the law?" 37 Jesus said to him, "`You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind1.'

    John 15:17 These things I command you, that ye love one another.

    1 John 4:20 If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen?

    Resist sin or tell others of Him--I can't decide. If our life doesn't agree with our words, our words will have no meaning.

    Yes, as martha shows the person who is saved that concentrates on 'working" for the Lord, her sister the one who relationship is to love Him first, than go work!

    I would certainly agree that our first calling is as scripture says;

    Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.

    However there are other scriptures that go with it to show if we really are doing it.

    If ye love me, keep my commandments.

    I think it could be summed up by saying our foremost task and desire should be seeking holiness for our lives which proves our love for the Lord because we will be commandment keepers.

    If the emphasis is on making it our aim to please him, and to live our lives always relating to him, I would agree...if the emphasis is simply on avoiding sin, then I think that would tend to take our focus off of Love for Christ and put it on trying to earn his approval.

    A person cannot, not sin unless it is done out of love. If we are loving Him it will be seen in obediance, not sinning.

    "He has told you, O man, what is good;
    And what does the LORD require of you
    But to do justice, to love kindness,
    And to walk humbly with your God?"

    We can living by faith and love, or by strictly rules keeping, its up to us!

    One can be a Spirit filled and led saint, or else one saved, but burdened down with serving the Lord out of duty, "keeping the law!"

    Where does it teach that Jesus will keep the commandments for us? We are the ones who are commanded to keep them not Him for us.

    Exactly, therefore our FIRST duty to God is to Love him.

    Let me ask a question on that. It is a command to love the Lord thy God with all they heart, soul and strength. Do you believe that we can turn this love on and off at will? Is it a choice?

    Well, I know you dissagree about whether we can actually obey this command or not...but I'll say this. Yes, it is a choice, one we make hundreds of times a day, it is a choice expressed in our actions and obedience. BUT...if #1 focus is on obeying God...to the neglect of relationship/love/worship...we will (1) turn into legalists... and (2) not be obeying his greatest commandment.

    You might want to change phychics. I agree totally with this;

    "Yes, it is a choice, one we make hundreds of times a day, it is a choice expressed in our actions and obedience."

    I have no clue what you mean by this in regards to what you just said;

    "BUT...if #1 focus is on obeying God...to the neglect of relationship/love/worship...we will (1) turn into legalists... and (2) not be obeying his greatest commandment"

    How does a person neglect relationship/love/worship if they are obeying God?
