    Just wondering, which version of the Bible could be deemed to be the most liberal version ever written?

    Are you talkingabout serious attempts at translation, or do include ethnic paraphrases?

    It would be hard to surpass the "Good As New" NT, which omits several books but includes the Gospel of Thomas, renames characters (Peter is now "Rocky" although there is something to be said for calling John "the Dipper"), and rendering I Corinthians 7:1-2 as "Some of you think the best way to cope with sex is for men and women to keep right away from each other. That is more likely to lead to sexual offences. My advice is for everyone to have a regular partner."

    How about the New World Translation (Jehovah's Witnesses) or the Clear Word Translation (Seventh Day Adventists)?

    Now this is liberal!

    Personally I find it offensive.

    Black Bible Chronicles Rappin' With Jesus: The Gospel According to the Four Brothers

    http://www.pkandcompany.com/book2.html

    Jesus Raps with the Brothers on the Hill
    'Blessed are the dissed,' and other sayings from the Sermon on the Mount

    P.K. McCary, Interpreter

    Excerpted from the Black Bible Chronicles series.

    One day as folks were starting to press all round Jesus, He decided to go up on a hill for a minute to rap with His chosen brothers.

    He wanted them to know what was up. “You know, there’s a little something for everybody,” Jesus told ‘em. “Brothers who are down in the way they feel, they ain’t got nothing to worry ‘bout ‘cuz the Kingdom of Heaven belongs to them. Even those who feel like they’ve lost, can be on the one again ‘cuz there will be arms ‘round ‘em to make ‘em feel better. And you know those brothers who seem weak and on the bottom of the tadpole, the world is theirs. No kidding. And those folks who always do right, got a kind word to say, a good deed or two to do, it’s coming back to ‘em in spades. If a brother shows kindness and mercy, it’s coming back to him more than he can count.

    Righteousness is given to those whose hearts are pure and good, for in the end they shall see the Almighty. And those that keep the peace, my brothers, shall be called the Almighty’s children. But, those who are dissed and stepped on ‘cuz they are trying to do the right thing, the kingdom of heaven is theirs. And here’s the kicker,” Jesus told them. “If you have to suffer ‘cuz you’re main brothers, no matter what it is, ou gotta know that in the end, the ultimate is gonna be laid on you. It’ll be worth more than gold."

    Serious attempts...The message, the old Living Bible.

    Paraphrases, or just plain parodies...the People's Bible(British), Good As New.

    Phillip, is it really "the bloodless Bible"? It's a paraphrase, isn't it? And my Aunt came to know the Lord through it and still uses it today. I've never really read that particular paraphrase all the way through, but I have it and will look up some references and see.

    I saw a "Hippies Bible" once. It's language was comparible with that of the Ghetto Bible.

    Jim,

    The two bibles I use most are KJV and ASV. Would you share your objections to the ASV?

    thanks

    Free will;
    Be happy to, as long as it is not debateable since that is not the intent of this thread.

    With that qualification, I dislike the ASV because it is an Americanized version of the RSV which sought to supplant the primacy of the KJV. The RSV is perhaps the MOST liberal translation to come from the W/H school of textual criticism.
    An example;
    Luke 1:37 KJV
    For with God, nothing shall be impossible."
    Luke 1:37 RSV
    "No word from God shall be void of power."
    Luke 1:37 ASV
    "For everything spoken by God is possible."
    Clearly the waters have been muddled. This is just one of many places that W/H took liberties where the doctrine is changed.
    But then again, there are many here who would disagree with me. That is their perogative I suppose.

    In HIS service;
    Jim
