The Mother of Vice

Even a superficial reading of scripture will provide a list of no-no's. Attributes of our Old Self can be found in Galatians 5:19-21. But the vice that fosters all of them is not listed.

But another list, from Mark 7:21-23 does include vice that put us against God, the Anti-God vice.

The Greek word is the noun form of the Adjective "hyperēphanos" (G5244) and the Adjective is found in the follow verses:

Luke 1:51
Romans 1:30
2 Timothy 3:2
James 4:6
1 Peter 5:5

The noun Pride or the adjective Proud have the same meaning: to think we are above others, including disregard for God!

Did Eve, added with the deception of Satan, question what God had said? That is from the fount of Pride. I judge others.

Yes. He deceived her with the Big Three that he tried to deceive Jesus with and the same Big Three that he deceives that whole world with.

1 John 2:16 = "For all that is in the world—the desires [lust] of the flesh and the desires [lust] of the eyes and pride of life—is not from the Father but is from the world."

Note: "ALL" that is in the world. ALL. Lust of flesh and eyes. Pride of life.

Those are the primary deceptions that Satan uses to draw all people [Revelation 12:9] into every sin imaginable. All sins fall somewhere under these three.

Adam was not deceived. He just deliberately disobeyed. But for the rest of his life, each time he sinned and he did, just as we ALL do, he was deceived - as Revelation 12:9 teaches.

We all need to be more on guard and prepared for those deceptions. And yes, Pride is one of the Big Three, if not the main one.

As noted, Satan used the 3 temptations seen in 1 John 2:16. From Gen 3:6:
--good for food - lust of the flesh
--pleasant to the eyes - lust of the eyes
--desired to make one wise - pride of life.

Satan's temptation of Jesus used all 3 in Matt 4 and Luke 4, the latter in the same sequence.
