When we were on the boardwalk my heart did sing
Then you left and I found no unbroken heart string.
The ship you boarded sailed way beyond the surf
Leaving me in a state of utter and complete dearth.
No longer was the boardwalk a place for melody
There were no longer a white or black key.
All that was left to see were the cracks
That were jagged to my soul like tacks.
I wanted to play my sweet violin
But do so now seemed as if a sin
You tossed bottled notes as you sailed away
But they did not heal my heart or pain allay.
I shall not return here to stand and weep
Though in the night I shall fitfully sleep.
I will commit you to wandering sea
And hope you will fondly think of me.
