The New Fundamentals?

An interesting premise, what are the 5 most needed now doctrines of biblical Christianity.

From the sketchy comment, Oh brother, I hope Jerome was also dismayed by the efforts of those presented.

Just a few of the sage advice promoted by these well meaning folks:

1) Because Christianity is under attack from coordinated efforts of Atheists and Muslims, we should "downplay" our confessional distinctives so we can better work together for social benefits. Never mind our mandate to achieve unity by reasoning together.

2) An apparent Catholic thought transubstantiation should be included.

3) Another may have thought paternalism was needed, and perhaps anyone who is influenced spiritually by a woman is a hen-pecked weakling badgered by domineering women.

4) And another seemed to think our individual rights were not bestowed to us by God, but come through the collective rights of the church.

Several observed we need to recognize the Bible as authoritative, but the need to arrive at a common understanding was not listed as essential.

Yes, here's a sample:

One of Rod Dreher's (a Methodist turned Roman Catholic turned Eastern Orthodox) Five New Fundamentals is to be "Practical Ecumenism".

Colin Chan Redemer (of St. Mary's College) favors one being that Jesus "is truly present with us in the Eucharistic Celebration".

Caleb Morell (of the 9Marksist faction of Southern Baptists) wants an emphasis on God revealing himself through Scripture and Nature.

and Eric Enlow (of the 'Liberty University School of Law') offers: "God must be recognized as a legal person".

New Fundamentals per Ascetic X:

1. Jesus remains eternally the exclusive, only way to God and Heaven, but He bids all without exception, of every race, nationality, and creed, to come to Him.

2. Christianity warmly welcomes people of all gender ideologies, sexual orientation, and romantic practices, although not all of them can be embraced as blessed by God or biblically correct.

3. War and violence are evil, thus Christians must be peacemakers and cannot support armed conflict or use lethal force or deadly weapons.

4. Unity is extremely vital for advancing the kingdom of God, and pride is Lucifer’s sin, thus no sect or denomination may claim sole apostolic succession or status of being the only true church.

5. Christians are known by their love for one another and all people, so none can ever engage in any type of personal insult, angry outburst, or malicious mockery for any reason.

I used to like reading Rod Dreher when he wrote for American Conservative. He really struck a chord with a lot of home schooling reformed folks who like his idea of withdrawing so to speak from society at large. I don't see him writing much anymore.

[2Jo 1:10 KJV] 10 If there come any unto you, and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into [your] house, neither bid him God speed:

[2Co 6:14-18 KJV] 14 Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness? 15 And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel? 16 And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in [them]; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. 17 Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean [thing]; and I will receive you, 18 And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty.

Titus 1:16

They profess to know God, but in works they deny Him, being abominable, disobedient, and disqualified for every good work.

2 Timothy 3:13

But evil men and impostors will grow worse and worse, deceiving and being deceived.

Jude 1:4

For certain men have crept in unnoticed, who long ago were marked out for this condemnation, ungodly men, who turn the grace of our God into lewdness and deny the only Lord God and our Lord Jesus Christ.

Acts 20:29-30

For I know this, that after my departure savage wolves will come in among you, not sparing the flock. Also from among yourselves men will rise up, speaking perverse things, to draw away the disciples after themselves.

2 John 1:7-9 is on point, instructing bible students. These seem to me to be very important today, with our almost absolute disunity concerning our understanding of scripture.

1) Deceivers do not "acknowledge" Jesus Christ. Thus we should seek unity in understanding of just what is "the name of Christ" so we know what to acknowledge and what not to acknowledge.

a) Jesus of Nazareth was born of a virgin women in the flesh, being "fathered" supernaturally.

b) Jesus was God incarnate, God with us, and performed many miracles by the power of the Holy Spirit.

c) Jesus sacrificed His life, as an offering without blemish (without sin) the just for the unjust (all of fallen humanity).

d) Jesus, the Christ, the Messiah, the Anointed One is the only way to God the Father, no one comes to the Father except through Him by means of the washing of regeneration.

2) Once actually saved, having been transferred into Christ's spiritual body, we must stick with our initial love and commitment and adherence to sound doctrine. Otherwise, we still enter heaven, but receiving less than a full reward.

3) Everyone who expands the teachings of Christ beyond their intent, adding to or altering His teachings, do not receive them into the church attending family, as they many hinder others from entering the kingdom. Also do not wish them well.
