The Princeton Project on National Security

Here is one place where I really disagree with this report:

"As for an agreed authority, the Security Council remains the preferred vehicle for authorizing such action, not least because since the end of the Cold War it has been seen as the most legitimate forum for deciding questions regarding the use of force in situations other than self-defense."

The UN is junk and should be abandoned as nothing more than a corrupt organization dominated by the Arab League, which has 22 votes, as you know.

Another place where I disagree is this statement:

"The best standard for deciding whether preventive force is justified derives from the concept of state responsibility. When states fail to protect their populations against genocide or large-scale killing, or when they fail to prevent developments within their own territory that will pose a grave threat to the security of others, the responsibility for doing so must rest on others. In deciding whether military intervention in such circumstances is justified, reference to the just war principles of gravity, proportionality, consideration of alternatives and likelihood of success is necessary and appropriate. But the ultimate justification should be the underlying concept that states which fail to live up to their responsibilities lose their right to insist that others not intervene in their internal affairs."

The USA does not have the military power to intervene all over the world. Look at the Sudan where the situation has been ongoing for over 20 years, yet I doubt if anyone in Congress even thinks of sending in US troops. Look at the refusal to supply our troops in Mogadishu and the resignation and Congressional hearing into Sec. of Defense Les Aspin on that subject. We have allowed a brutal communist regime in Cuba for almost 50 years. We have to be selective about where we go. We have ruled Haiti off and on for most of the 20th century without solving that voodoo-ridden national problem. Now we have Hugo Chávez using military force to undermine other nations in South America.

The lessons from World War II when Japan went into China in the 1930s and when Italy went into Ethiopia is that it is hard to find support for sending the military to help people who live in mud huts. There are limits to American power and we must be careful about using it because we have limited manpower and limited means.

In my opinion, the west should close the doors to any Arabs or muslims wanting to leave their home countries. It seems to me that muslims are separatists who want to enjoy the wealth and freedom of non-muslim states but at the same time seek to undermine those states by refusing to assimilate. We do not want primitive, brutal Islamic law and primitive, brutal Islamic religion to control our freedoms. In short, they bow to Mecca 5 times a day for fear of death for refusal to comply. We do not need that religious-controlled daily life and politics of fear in this greatest nation on God's green earth.
