She has poor taste in Democrats. Acheson is no one to admire. He and Truman stopped short of victory on Korea.

She should have looked to John Foster Dulles, who told the Russians that we would drop the atomic bomb on them.

I would not vote for her for anything. I will be glad when she resigns. I think that she is responsible for forcing Israel into the current mess about Gaza in a futile land for peace deal.

Bush had a chance to do something but he was unable to do anything but continue the war in Iraq. Now he is faced with what to do about Iran and Syria. Bush has refused to regulate the border and has allowed Mexico to blackmail us for oil. Bush should tell the American people that we are going to close the border and regulate it totally even if Mexico stabs us in the back by refusing to sell us anymore oil.

    CMG,

Agreed, I will not vote for Rice, but only because there should be more to go on than her foreign policy record and I don't like the fact that she is reportedly pro-abortion.

But I disagree with you on Iran and Syria. Bush is not faced with the present situation in Iran through his own actions but because of Iran's own dangerous choices. Same for Syria. I don't think we need to be pulling out of Iraq either. So far, I believe things are going as well as can be expected and the media typically feeds us only the negatives. I remain pessimistic as to whether democratic institutions will take firm root there but the signs are very encouraging. Further, both America's friends and enemies are watching closely to see if America cuts and runs. The "friends" who urge us to do so include the likes of France and Germany. It was precisely such cutting and running, as in Somalia, that gave al-Quaeda such encouragement and motivation to begin with. Also, I don't know if the war in Iraq is a chief or even a major influence but I think it would be foolish to factor it out as an influence on the positive developments Rice has cited in the area.

As to Mexico, we're completely agreed. I heard an interesting solution the other day on the illegal immigration problem, i.e., give current illegal aliens a 90-day or 6 month window of opportunity to come forward, pay a stiff fine for violation of our immigration laws, apply for a visa or guest worker permit or whatever and that anyone caught after that date will be "put on the bus" and employers will be stiffly fined.

A democracy will only work (as far as we're concerned) a short time in the middle east because the results of elections reflect the pulse of the constituency, and in the middle east, that pulse beats for war not peace.

At the core of these Muslim nations is Islam. When the liberals realize how to convince the masses to revert to jihad mentality, they will. The hatred these people have for Israel is great.

The liberal what? Now you guys are blaming radical Islamic jihad on the U.S. liberals? You're not only way, way off base but unAmerican.

You are right that a democracy won't work in Iraq but it's because they have ne history or experience with democracy. Iraq will become a radical Islamic state just like Iran and there is nothing we can do about it short of occupying their country for the next 50 years. Actually, I believe that was Bush's plan all along. Only significant domestic political pressure ( fro the "liberals" actually partiots) is going to prevent that from happening.

Nah. It hasn't been before and I see no reason why it won't remain a basically secular State, just as our nation has always been.

No shock here. We agree a lot except on a certain minor political party.

Condi is smart but like a lot of intellectuals she relies on her brain instead of her Lord and Saviour. The book on the subject is by Paul Johnson in 1988 entitled The Intellectuals, ISBN 0060160500, LCCN 88045518.

    LADY EAGLE AND EVERYONE ELSE;

Wising you and yours God's richest blessings this Christmas season and always! May you and yours lack nothing! [IMG]

Iraq as it is today won't become a radical Shia Islamic state. The Sunni, Kurd, and Assyrian minorities are too large.

Condi is every bit as much of a Christian as you are, cmg, whether you like it or not.

She is Christian left and I am not. She favors abortion and I do not. She condemns the fence around the Bank and Gaza and I do not. Nice try.

    Condi is not Christian left.

    Condi does not favor abortion.

One's stance toward the fence and Gaza has nothing to do with being a Christian.

Condi is your sister in Christ, whether you like it or not, cmg.

Well, she won't get my vote for Pres. unless there is no other course. I do think she'd be great in most high level cabiner positions. I can't seem to find it now, but I know I heard that she was pro choice.
