The purpose of worship in your church

Within the Lutheran Church the primary purpose of the worship services is the proclamation of the Gospel and the closely related topic of calling sinners to repentance. This is accomplished through confession and absolution, the reading of Scripture, Preaching, and the administering of the Sacraments. Teaching, praise, and prayer are all secondary they happen but they are not the primary purpose. It is one of the reasons why in our we tend to call them Divine Service because it is about God performing His work in our presence.

In your church what is the primary purpose of the Worship service and what does worship entail?

1. Training during Sunday School

2. Praise - Proclamation is Song of God's Greatness

3. Worship - Adoration of God in 'personal song'

4. Preaching of the Word - May or may not be a 'Salvation message'.

My own view is that you can not keep a healthy flock from reproducing itself...

So, my upside down atttude is this...

If the ministry team pours in Oil and Wine in the wounds of the flock...

If the ministry team binds up their wounds...

If the ministry team *really* prepares the flock for works of service...

Especially having their feet shod with the preparation of the gospel...

Evangelism will happen through the natural interaction of the flock...

It won't be an effort, it will be a by-product of who they are...

The flock will have a hope that will draw people to them with the question, "Why? Do you have hope in this day and age."

Warning... Cancer also grows rapidly...

So, make sure it's the health of the flock not the growth of the flock you are measuring...

Nonetheless a healthy flock will experience steady growth.

So, the purpose of the Worship Service is God's People...

The purpose of God's People is to win the world...

To turn the world upside down and on it's ear...
