The quickest route to humility

I attended a Free Will Baptist church while going to college. One evening they had a footwashing / communion service. Having never been to one my flesh fought me all the way to church that night and I almost didn’t go. During the service there was such tears and shouting, wow! They would pray over you as they washed the feet and it was really a dramatic sight. It was really done decent and there was such a clean spiritual sensation afterwards as I cannot describe.

I would say the quickest route to humility is in the Footwashing service and it is to my understanding other denominations have these type services as well.

The express road to humility starts with self denial.

First ask for the grace of humility daily, because to think you can achieve this Chief Virtue by yourself is pride. The journey to humility is the greatest journey of discovery a man can undertake, the more he travels, the more he discovers his wretchedness. Perhaps pray for courage first before pursuing humility.

Fasting, prayer on one’s knees, sleep on the hard floor. Deny your will and do the will of others, this last one is a true test. In true contradiction of the world the Lord says let the greatest of all be the servant of all.

“ Deny yourself, take up your cross and come follow me “

Denying yourself is the opposite of indulging yourself, and The Spirit of God totally opposes self indulgence.

The proud man indulges himself , he feels entitled, ‘ I’m me, of course I deserve it ‘
The proud man enforces all his rights and beyond, the humble man remembers his own sins and counts all others his betters.

Where is the Lord asking us to follow Him with our crosses? To the crucifixion of self, where self is not just tortured, but truly dies.

“ It is no longer I that lives, but Christ who lives in me “

23But Jesus replied, “The hour has come for the Son of Man to be glorified. 24Truly, truly, I tell you, unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a seed; but if it dies, it bears much fruit. 25Whoever loves his life will lose it, but whoever hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life. 26If anyone serves Me, he must follow Me; and where I am, My servant will be as well. If anyone serves Me, the Father will honor him.”

“Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams.”

Obedience is true sacrifice, to sacrifice your will to prefer the will of another. Not sacrificing a dumb animal.

Obedience especially when you greatly desire your will instead, is the greatest sacrificial offering a man can make.

Use those opportunities of obedience the Father sends you each day, and make sacrifice of them to Him on the Altar of your heart.

The Lord will provide the sacrifice, see those opportunities to obey and deny your will tangled by their horns each day. Take them, and make sacrifice to the Lord.

By many small daily sacrifices of our will offered to the Lord, we are freed of self. We forget self and live to serve others, and recognise Jesus in others.

That joy we experience when we are asked for help or obey a superior, is knowing that at that moment we are doing God’s Holy Will, we are doing what God intended for us to do for all eternity.

You are doing God’s Will on Earth as it is in Heaven.

If you are sick accept it as from the Loving Father, be patient and loving to all helping you, they are Jesus helping you.

Your physical infirmity can be healing your spiritual infirmity, leave that judgment to the Lord in abandoned trust. Don’t turn on the Lord in your pain and frustration, but drawn even closer to Him.

A man who had a massive car accident and after much rehabilitation had brain damage and many debilities was complaining about his condition, and was upset with the Lord about it.
I said that I knew him before his accident, and the man after the accident was a far better man. He realised and understood something that had troubled him for years.

Life is very short, we must count all things as loss in this world, shy away from attachment to your life now in everything and remember you are dust.
This is what it means to “ hate your life “.
Not only is this humility but wisdom which is adherence to the Truth.

The human Will is like a wild horse, it looks every direction possible, but not the face of Jesus. “ Be still and know that I am God “.

Many believers still do not hand over this dangerous thing, they still hold onto their volition. They say they give their lives and treasure, but they still hold onto their volition.
Only very generous souls hand over their very volition, such that Jesus Himself walks the earth again in them.
I have met some of these people.

By every small daily sacrifice of our will, we are on training wheels until by God’s Grace we can make this complete sacrifice of our human Will to the Lord. When a man’s Will is completely absorbed into the Divine Will, spiritual Fusion goes critical, a Star is born with the same power as the Life of God. When enough souls do this, It brings about the New Heavens and New Earth, a return to the first order of Creation under Jesus not Adam.
It redefines the parameters of both Heaven and Earth to indistinguishable, the Heavenly Jerusalem descends to Earth.
