I find it a clever tactic of Satan that the RCC is trying to draw socially conservative evangelicals into her fold through socially conservative ideals (i.e. pro-life values, conservative stance on homosexual issues, etc). In this time of secularism it is tempting to want to see Rome as our ally in a war against the rampant godlessness in our culture.

But what I have noticed is this: while the secularists want us to abandon our adherance to all of the Ten Commandments, the RCC only wants us to give up the first four, and we can join her in keeping the other six (see Exodus 20). And if the Roman institution is successful, the end result is that we will all become united in our moral relationships to one another while we reject a proper understanding and relationship with the God of our salvation. Well.

They will wait a long long looooong time for me to be included under "her" umbrella...so long as "she" holds to the idolatry, heresy, and devilish falsehood that exists in the Catholic church.

I know some Catholics who have saving faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and I am proud to have them as my sisters and brothers, but as for the organisation, the scriptures speak of a dog returning to its vomit.

I was raised Catholic and then was born again, and I will not return to the darkness after having been brought into the "marvelous light".

I would stand before a firing and refuse.

Don't we want all Catholics to unite with us under the Baptist umbrella?

Well it's a good thing that at least you won't get snared by Satan and his clever pro-life tactics.

Gold; I would say NO to your question. But I WOULD like to see them all under the umbrella of the Cross alone.

    In HIS service;

I thought the RCC vote in America was usually "majority-pro-Abortion". (Aside from possibly this last election - where it is uncertain what was motivating their vote)

    Did I miss something?

Is the RCC vote in America now going to switch to be consistently and "Decidedly pro-life" from now on??

That would be a welcomed change, if true.

    In Christ,

One could say "shame, shame" regarding the situation, or one could wonder how the Catholic Church maintains these correct positions when they are so unpopular with many of its own members.

    Very much so!

No. We might be better off, but as Jim states Christ's real church needs to be united under Him.

One of the problems is that we humans rely so heavily on man-made structures and institutions to unify us. The result is that Satan creeps in (as Christ predicted in Matthew 13:24-43) and plants his decievers in all of our institutions. These people then begin to introduce us to heretical doctrines and tempt us to indulge in unholy behavior (as if we need any more help in that department! )

Church unification is the work of the Holy Spirit and is successful to the extent which we allow Him to permeate our lives thoroughly, conforming us to the image of Christ. Unfortunately most all of us are resistant to this process and it therefore takes time.

Well, when you have popular popes like this last one it is not so far-fetched. I think secularism is beginning to run its course in western culture. People have lived their lives in whatever sinful manner they pleased and are finding no fulfillment in it. So, they are looking for something greater than their own pleasure and finding it in leaders like PJP II. He gave them the total package: "Humble" world leader, compassionate, peace-promoting, world-unifying, religious (to connect them to God), and moral. Just enough to make people feel good about themselves and their fellow man.
The problem is that what we need as humans is to be regenerated or re-born, not to improve our moral standars or feel good about ourselves.

I take it you are being sarcastic. In fact I am vehemently pro-life and won't vote for any politician who isn't. But as important of an issue as this is, it still does not compare to the importance of rightly relating to our God. The first four commandments are instructions to us on how to properly understand and relate to God. The last six have to do with how to behave toward our fellow man. I don't think it was an accident that they were put in that order.

So its your official position that in an effort to trick protestants the Catholic Church adopted a socially conservative agenda ~1500 years before the protestant movement began. That is really tricky

The Church has been teaching against abortion and homosexuality since the beginning its teaching on these matters is unaltered. The SBC for example just recently officially retracted its position in favor of abortion.

No, I'm aware that the Roman Catholic Instituion has a very long history of publically espousing these socially conservative ideals. Satan (and Rome for that matter) is attempting to deceive evangelicals and other followers of Christ into thinking that the social values that we share with Rome are worthy of our forsaking the first four Commandments' instructions on how to relate to our God. This path, if followed, would only lead us into some kind of morally-high-grounded apostasy.

    drspinko,

Forsake in which manner? We have no other gods. To take the Lord's name in vain is a sin and we remember and keep holy the Lord's Day.

This is how the RCC deceives you?

    rsr,

I was just asking myself the very same question. Having been born in a Southern Bapist family, I can't remember a time when the Convention ever officially supported infanticide in any form. I know that there are some members of the Convention who hold to this, but they do not represent the official position of the Convention, and never have to my knowledge.

I am against theological ecumenicalism when it comes to working with other religions who teach false doctrine such as the RCC and the Mormon Church. I can, however, unite with them politically to affect social and moral change in society without accepting their false doctrines.

Resolution On Abortion, adopted at the SBC convention, June 1971:

WHEREAS, Christians in the American society today are faced with difficult decisions about abortion; and
WHEREAS, Some advocate that there be no abortion legislation, thus making the decision a purely private matter between a woman and her doctor; and
    WHEREAS, Others advocate no legal abortion, or would permit abortion only if the life of the mother is threatened;
Therefore, be it RESOLVED, that this Convention express the belief that society has a responsibility to affirm through the laws of the state a high view of the sanctity of human life, including fetal life, in order to protect those who cannot protect themselves; and
Be it further RESOLVED, That we call upon Southern Baptists to work for legislation that will allow the possibility of abortion under such conditions as rape, incest, clear evidence of severe fetal deformity, and carefully ascertained evidence of the likelihood of damage to the emotional, mental, and physical health of the mother

Here is link to a resolution from 2003 overturning the pro-abortion resolutions from 1971 and 1974

    http://www.sbcannualmeeting.org/sbc03/resolutions/sbcresolution.asp?ID=6

So they truly promoted false doctrnie for years, ie some life is ok to kill even if it is created in the image of God

I believe "thou shall not kill" is one of the 10 commandments, yet the original poster accuses Catholics of trying to ignore the comandments

You're kind of selective in the use of documentation. The 2003 resolution is in a long line of resolutions.

    From 1980:

    Or from 1982:
