With the growing number of crazies shooting up the country the past few years, I am simply wondering out loud if you were willing, without a fight [and the kind of fight is up to you], hand over your guns to make America a safer place? That is if you are a gun holding American, that is!

Can anyone seriously believe that after decades of victories for gun-rights advocates that government taking away everybody's firearms is still imminent? If there is one social issue on which conservatives have been winning it is guns as courts have struck restrictive legislation after another while in state after state NRA-friendly legislation are passed. The President is probably friendly to an assault weapons ban but with the fiscal cliff, infrastructure spending, and immigration reform on the agenda I doubt he will spend precious political capital in a political Battle of the Verdun.

The premise in the OP is flawed. Guns are amoral. Taking them away will not make people safer. The problem is sin. People are evil and when they are determined to do harm to others they will do it. Only Christ will bring peace and safety.

A case in point, a few days ago in Casper, WY a man killed his father and his fathers girlfriend and then himself. He did not use a gun. He used a bow and arrow and a knife. This was in a small rural town where most people own at least one firearm. The woman was killed in her residential neighborhood. The father was killed on the college campus, which is a no gun zone. He was attacked while lecturing his students. The woman and the father were both killed by an arrow. The attacker then killed himself with a knife.

The people around me are safer when I'm armed than when I'm not. Giving up my guns would make America a more dangerous place.

Maybe Guns Make Us Safer...

...but today's school shooting will compel as well as propel the nation closer to supporting a broad gun control ban.

And it is at times like these, that I can't find too much to disagree with when it comes to getting a better grip on guns everywhere around the nation and the world.

today's school shooting cannot be blamed on gun possession. I'd say it's more on school security policies on allowing non-employees into school grounds.
that shooter was allowed in because he was known to the school as the son of a kindergarten teacher.
no one should be allowed past the administration office whether or not school is ongoing.
also, if at least one armed guard and one roving armed guard were posted in school grounds, not to mention allowing one or two teachers to pack while in school.........

Is it time to talk about a ban on assault weapons? I know the talk will be if this guy today didn't have an automatic gun we wouldn't have seen as many killed.

This event will be BIG..I think it will compel some kind of legislation in the coming months. I think we ought to take Constantine's approach and make everyone be a Christian..of course I'm kidding.

I suggest everyone reread your states laws. You might be surprised by how many states still allow open carry. Be sure to check local laws too, as most states allow city governments to place some restrictions. I would also suggest checking the policies of specific locations (stores and restaurants) you visit regularly.

He didn't have an "automatic gun." Automatics are illegal except for some very limited licenses. He had two semi-automatic pistols.

I agree this incident will spark more stupid legislation. What the anti-Constitution morons don't seem to understand is that more people are killed with baseball bats in a year than with guns. More people are killed, by several orders of magnitude, by cars than by guns, yet these same morons are not going to outlaw driving to the ball game!

By the way, there is no such thing as an "assault rifle." "Assault" is a verb, not a noun. I can assault you with my fists, a hammer, a rolling pin, or a wooden shoe. Is anyone considering outlawing all of those?

The politicians, and anti-gun crowd in general, have made "assault" to be an adjective. It has been used to label firearms they have decided look scary.

Agreed. Not based on how the firearm works, but on how it looks! A Ruger 10/22 works exactly the same as an AR-15 but even the brain dead politicians aren't talking about banning the 10/22!

Its the "ugly black rifle" syndrome. A perfect example of the abject stupidity of anti-gun politicians is Carolyn McCarthy's stupid remarks regarding "barrel shrouds" which she wants to outlaw. The problem is, she doesn't know what a barrel shroud is!
