The Rocket Gets the Win in the 18th Inning

With the trio of Petite, Oswalt, and Clemens; with the middle relief of Qualls and Wheeler; with the ability to shut down the oppostion in save situations of Lidge; and with, hopefully, continued timely hitting as they got during the series with the Braves, I am hopeful that the Astros will defeat the Cardinals in the NLCS.

I have a lot of respect for the Cardinals baseball organization. I'm looking forward to another great NLCS but with the Astros hopefully winning this time around.

 

Let me get this straight. The Atlanta Braves trotted out Kyle Farnsworth to save a playoff game for them?



He went from blowing saves for the Cubs to blowing a playoff series for the Braves. I don't think this is a new revelation, but I think the only difference between the 1995-present New York Yankees and the 1995-present Atlanta Braves is Mariano Rivera. Put Mo on the Braves and they're the ones winning multiple championships. Kyle Farnsworth sure wasn't the answer yesterday.

Looks like the Cards are going to be stiff conpetition for the Angels in the World Series.

How are we going to know which fan is which? Both teams wear red!!!

 

Petite was an Astro last season but he was injured during the season and wasn't available.

I imagine you are aware that the regular season means nothing in the playoffs. The Astros won't be sending out Austacio or Rodriguez(the fourth and fifth starters for much of the season) to the mound to start a game in this series. Plus it comes down more to timely hits rather than the number of hits as pitching and defense ultimately wins championships.

This may be another seven game series.

 

I hope that the Angels beat the Yankees tonight but, unfortunately, it is looking rather iffy going into the game.

I hope the Cardinal players play as overconfident as you write about their chances versus the Astros.

 

Not really iffy at all. The Angels are 50-33 at Angel Stadium this season, including 13-4 in the last 17. New York is a mediocre 43-40 outside of the Bronx. That, plus that fact that the Angels are the only team in baseball this season to have a winning records againt the Yanks, that's gotta be worth something.

It's not a sure thing by any streatch, but if the Angels play as good as they normally do, the changes are pretty darned good.

 

So on paper there is a 39.8% chance that this could be one of the games that the Angels lose at home, and a 51.8% chance that this could be one of the games that the Yankees win on the road. Like I said, it's iffy for the Angels. As it is for the Yankees as well. A series deciding game is usually like that.

I hope you are right but I won't be the least bit surprised if the Yankees, unfortunately, win tonight.

 

I was glad to see the Yankees lose last night. That made me four for four in picking the winners of the divisonal series.

Little quiet in Mudville tonight? I was on the phone with my brother in Tomball when Minute Maid Stadium went from rockin' and stompin' to pin-drop quiet.

NASA is reporting that Pujols ball is still in orbit.

 

A shocker to be sure. Houston teams have always had a way of snatching defeat from the jaws of victory (remember the Oilers vs. Bills game?). In any case, I am still confident the 'stros can "Git 'er done!"
