The sideburn question

A man gets tired of his barber always cutting his sideburns unevenly;
So he goes out and hires a group of the best barbers money can buy, and puts them to the task.

They tirelessly work on the man for hours, and announces to him, that they are finished, and tells him that his sideburns are “perfect”.

He takes a look, but just can’t be sure:
So he hires another group of experts to look into the matter, and sure enough they promise, that they can do a better job. etc, etc, etc, etc, etc,
--------------------------------------------------
Now, apply this to God’s Word.

About 1700 year ago(about 370AD), our Church fathers, started to canonize the Bible(this took about 1200 year or so), but finally they declare it to be God’s preserved Word, (inspired and without error).

And for the next 8 or 9 hundred years, things are great(for the most part):
Satan hated the Bible, and tried to destroy it, by burning every copy he can get his hands on, and also burning those who were making copies:
(But praise the LORD, God keeps His promise to us, and His Word prevailed.)

But all the time, Satan has another plan in the mix:
He had barbers, approaching God’s people here and there, telling them that the sideburns on the Bible, were not the same length.

But God’s people, being full of faith in the LORD, ignore these stories, and continue to see the wonderful things His Word can do.
--------------------------------------------------
Finally, as the Lord’s return was getting closer, and Satan knowing that His time is short, double’s his efforts.

He enlists two master barbers(W & H), who started convincing people, that they can prove that the Bible’s sideburns weren’t the same length:

They had some special measuring tools(the oldest ones of there kind), and even though neither of these tools measure the same length, and had missing parts, they are convinced that if they could put them together, and start searching for the missing parts, that they can come up with a tool, that can fix the Bible’s sideburns.

Well, most Christians rejected this idea, for a few years, until the Supreme of Master Barber(BBW), agreed, that the Bible’s sideburns were not the same length, and that we aught to help (W & H), in their search for the missing parts to this new measuring tool, that they have put together.
And that noone should consider the Bible’s sideburns perfect, anymore.

Now at that time, by far 99% of the regular people still rejected this idea: having faith in God’s Word.

But over time, the Supreme of Master Barber, having had a great deal of influence over preachers and over schools, slowly began to convince everybody, that the Bible’s sideburns are not the same length.

And even today, the Supreme of Master Barber’s followers, will shout down anybody that says, that the Bible’s sideburns are perfect.

Your time line is off. Let's see, they started about 370 A.D. and finished about 1200 years later or so (that's about 1570 or so... hum, what happened about 1570 or so... hum... wait... didn't some English scholars finish a translation about 1611 or so.... could it be you believe the church finally got the bible right in the 1611 KJV translation? Could it be you believe Satan is using modern translations to undermine the one true translation?)

The early church had accepted the books of scripture by the end of the first century.

When other writings began to appear in the 2nd century, church leaders began to look carefully at them and reject them as inauthentic and contrary to God's Word.

Nevertheless, the issue of what exactly constituted scripture continued in the church because heretics continued in the church.

By the time of the councils in the 4th century, the cannon of scripture was largely accepted.

BTW, Jerome translated the Hebrew and Greek into Latin about 400 or so. The Eastern church remained Greek, however.

peace to you:praying:

Well this is 100% wrong. The canonization process ended at the Synod of Carthage.

Okay, so Wescott and Hort are Satan's apprentices? Really?

Who is BBW...I get W&H but who is BBW?

I thought Jesus was God's Word...

So anyone who doesn't accept an a priori assertion that the TR is the best textual apparatus at face value is an apprentice of Satan too?

See this is the kind of reasoning that put you in such a silly position in your previous thread.

Hello canadyjd

Thanks for the info. about the canon.
I came up with my dates, because I read somewhere, that Martin Luther(1483 - 1546), in his time, was still trying to keep Hebrews, James, Jude and Revelation out of the canon of Scripture:

So I just assumed, that the canon wasn’t nailed down, until around then.

Let's see the REAL story:

The man had his sideburns trimmed as they grew over time, sometimes having the master barbers leaving them shaggy if that was the prevailing style, sometimes having them clip them quite short if that was the style of the time.

Then one day, someone who knew nothing about hairstyles, sent by that man's enemy, convinced the man that the style of years ago was the one and only acceptable style from the day of that early style through now, and he believed that messenger! Now he criticizes every other man who wears sideburns in the prevailing style of today, and wonders why women laugh at him and other men shun him. His family can only hope he someday realizes that he's been duped by his enemy!
