    A few things of note:

    1) After Mitch Mustain first collegiate touchdown, when he returned to the sidelines, Coach Nutt didn't look excited at all. I didn't see him say a word to Mustain.

    2) Coach Nutt named Mustain the starter yesterday at a press conference. Robert Johnson had worse games than the one last Saturday night and didn't get moved to wide receiver last season. Usually there would be a couple of practices before a change of quarterback would be announced.

    3) Coach Nutt looked awful at the press conference yesterday. He did not seem at all excited about announcing that Mustain would be the starting quarterback. This fuels the speculation that Frank Broyles forced this decision on him.

It could be an interesting year on the hill at Fayetteville and I am not sure that Coach Nutt likes losing control of the offense. If the Hogs go 8-4 it will be interesting to see if Coach Nutt is happy enough with winning or if he leaves to go someplace where he can have more control and call the offensive plays again.

If the coach does not have the trust of the school to make his own decisions then he should move on.

I missed the press conference since I was in Branson. If he starts winning, he will stay and become the next AD. If he continues to lose, he will be fired. He has the talent and the experience this year. There will be only one reason for a losing season...bad coaching.

A blue-chip QB recruit is not the starter in the first game, but he does play, and shows a little 'lightning' but also makes mistakes. Then he is named the starter for the 2nd game, and the previous starter, a good athlete, but not necessarily a good QB, is moved to WR. Sounds like a familiar story from an adjoining state last year. It's likely the 'rest of the story' also corresponds, or will. There are a lot of wealthy Arkansawyers in that area, who want get what they 'anted up' [Bear Bryant's way of putting it] to get that blue QB by also getting his HS offensive coordinator, plus... whatever else. No one should be surprised when this guy proves to be spoiled and maladjusted and thinks he is 'entitled.'

Are you referring to Mitch Mustain? If so, do you have anything concrete to back up your perjorative language? If not, to whom are you referring?

Ken, you may be right about Broyles vs. Nutt. But why should Nutt look happy when you're getting blown out in your own stadium by a much superior team? Didn't Nutt hire Mustain's HS coach with NO collegiate experience at all, or is this allegedly another puppet move?

The good news for Nutt is that Miss St and Bama look weak. I think they only have to worry about Ole Miss standing in their way of being third in the West which is the best they can hope for. I don't know if that's enough to save his job. Nutt is clearly in the most tenuous situation in the West, second only in the SEC to Rich Brooks of UK.

I do believe that Nutt did hire Mustain's high school coach. It's all about the booster money.
I can't wait for the Friday after thanksgiving myself! Geaux Tigers!

Looks like someone made the decision to play for next year regardless of whether Nutt keeps his job or not.

Mustain is a great prospect and will probably be pretty good by the end of the season... but 3rd in the west is a lofty goal for Arkansas. They aren't even close to LSU or Auburn at this point. As someone mentioned, Bama and Miss State don't look very good so the door is open for them to gain some respect back.

FTR, what Carroll did was pretty classless. Fulmer probably could have beaten Cal worse than SC beat Arkansas but called off the dogs mid-3rd qtr. Carroll poured it on... one can only hope that he gets his chance to be on that end of the stick soon.

I've said it before and I'll say it again - Arkansas' biggest problem was thier defection from the SWC. the pipeline to Texas athletes has been stymied and the competitiveness of the arkansas team has gone downhill ever since. When they were in the SWC they played a ton of games in TX, had good recognition and the boys knew that thier families could see them play without driving all the way to arkansas.

I can remember back in the day, the sportswriters complaining about all the DFW kids running off to arkansas, and oklahoma to play - not so much these days. OK and some of the national schools still get thier share - but we see alot more of those kids staying put. - Not that it is helping my Aggies much ...

The SWC was not going to last. The SEC is better than the Big 12. I think Arkansas made the right move.

Slightly, according to the game results. Since the current SEC was formed in 1992, SEC teams are 21-19 in head-to-head against teams that make up the Big 12. Since the Big 12 was formed in 1996, the SEC is 17-15 against Big 12. The Cotton Bowl agreement (began with 1998 season), with the 2nd or 3rd picks from each conference meeting, is 4-4, with Big 12 winning 3 or first 4, and SEC winning 3 of last 4.

Come on now Alcott, you know good and well that the SEC is by far the best college football on the planet. I mean for goodness sakes, even their worst teams are good enough to beat everyone else in the country, right?

Not by any stretch. The SEC is strong at the top, narrow in the middle, and very weak at the bottom.

The Big 12 is fairly similar except they have fewer teams routinely at the top. It has been a 2 team race for several years. The north is finally showing just a little life this year but it still probably comes down to the winner of the OU-Tex game.

The Pac10 has 2-3 good teams at the top in any given year then a bunch of teams in the middle. Teams that would beat the bottom of the SEC (KY, MSU, Miss, Vandy) but lose handily to the top tier SEC teams.

The BE maybe has one good team.

The ACC appears to be having a down year but they usually equal numbers of good, moderate, and bad teams.

The Big 10 may be the best conference overall. Only Indiana and Illinois can be counted on to have no chance whatsoever. They usually have 4-5 very good teams, 4 good teams, then two that really stink it up.

Scott, I would agree with your thoughts. I was just poking fun at those who think that the SEC is all there is when it comes to college football. I have some good friends who are there and it is almost comical to hear them go on and on...

    A close one...21-19 over Vandy.

Mustain is showing a lot of promise. He still needs to be a bit more careful with a few passes, but he obviously can make plays.

Whoever made the decision to start Mustain made a good one, IMO.
