The Ten Virgins all had their robes on, white robes of purity, claiming to be Christians. Five were foolish. The Lamps they carried represent the Word of God (Thy Word is a Lamp unto my Feet). But Five had no oil (Holy Spirit).

Jesus told them Depart from Me, yes that work iniquity (lawlessness) I never knew you.

Its that simple. Many Christians today make a mere profession of Christianity. With no inward change.

THE REASON THEY ARE LIARS

The Bible says that if you CLAIM to KNOW God but you dont keep His commandments then you are a LIAR.


1Jn:2:4: He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.

In the parable of the Wise and Foolish Virgins, they all had their white robes, claiming to be Christians but five of them had no oil for their lamps. They didnt keep their lamps trimmed and burning.

Jesus finally slams the door on their face and He tells them depart from Me I never KNEW YOU ye that work lawlessness.

They were in effect, LIARS... claiming to KNOW GOD yet working lawlessness.

If they had Oil, the Holy Spirit, they would have walked in the Spirit and not in the flesh.

Those who are carnal minded and at enmity with God's Law are continuing to walk in the flesh and not in the Spirit

Romans 8:
4: That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.
5: For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit.
6: For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.
7: Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.
8: So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God.

I actually agree with you on most of this Claudia. They were turned away because they didn't have the Holy Spirit, they weren't any of Christ's. Mere profession doesn't mean genuine salvation and the walk of professing Christians is a great indicator of a genuine profession.

But in the great scheme of things, we just don't know for sure. We all fall short everyday, we all sin everyday. The Lord knows all those who are His. The key is the inward man, the most important place is a place only God can see. If there is open unrepentant sin for a prolonged period of time, then we can come to the conclusion that the profession wasn't genuine. The same can be said of those who blaspheme the Holy Spirit. You'll know them by thier fruit. They never had forgiveness. Also those who turn from truth to a lie: apostasy. A professed Christian denouncing Christ and coverting to Islam was never Christ's. If they were of us, they would have stayed with us.

Now, on the other hand, just because someone doesn't drink or smoke or curse or watch television, attend church every Sunday (or Saturday) doesn't mean thier profession is any more true than that of the apostate. Behavior is a good indicator but we can't see the inward man. Now I'm not advocating drinking, smoking, cursing etc., but just because someone doesn't do it, does not in any way mean they are closer to heaven than those who do. Moralism is just as dangerous as antinomianism (literally lawlessness). They're ditches on opposite sides of the road we're to walk.

The Holy Spirit is our Comforter, given by God, to work in us holiness and sanctification. Now we lie if we say that we have no sin, yea, we make God out to be a liar. If we are honest, we will confess that we sin everday, and God will forgive us in His mercy. The Spirit is given by God by the means of the hearing of faith, not by works of the Law. Salvation is by faith in Jesus Christ and Christ alone, because it is His fulfillment of God's Holy Law that justifies us in God's sight.

By grace, through the means of faith, Christ's perfect righteouness is imputed to us, we are given the gift of the Holy Spirit, God's seal of promise to all those that believe. The Holy Spirit changes the inward man, something we can't do. We can change outward behavior, and seem holy, as the Pharisees, but inwardly be filty as a nonbeliever is outwardly.

There is a fine line, we are called to be faithful and do good works, but there must be an inward change beforehand. That change is something only God can do. Then afterwards, we can say, show me your faith by your works. If we humans see no works, we see no faith, no sign of an inward change. God has no such bounds, God knows who are His, God sees the whole of a man. Many very outwardly moral professers will be in hell, just as many lawless professors will also be there.

The antinomian says, "I've accepted Christ, there is no law for me now." , then sins to his evil hearts content. I say to him, "Christ died to save us from sin. We're called to be holy, we're called to put off the deeds of the flesh, if you have no fruit to match your confession of Christ, you don't have Him. There is no outward evidence of inward change.Repent, and put your trust in Jesus Christ alone, strive to mortify sin in your life."

The moralist says, "I don't smoke, I don't drink, I don't dance, I don't associate with people who do. I've attended every church service and every prayer meeting and function for 25 years. I've been a deacon for the last ten years. I've not lied for a very long while, I'm not a slave of pornography, I've never commited adultery, and I don't associate with people who do any of those things. I will surely see heaven." I say to him, "It's commendable that you have not done those things, but don't you know one sin is enough to merit hell. You say "I've done this, I've done that", but outside of Christ, those very things are filthy rags and detestable in God's sight. Your pride is your downfall, repent of your dead works, do not trust in them, because your just reward for doing them is eternal hellfire. There is no such thing as sinless perfection apart from Jesus Christ. We are counted righteous though faith in Christ, but we still sin, I don't know anyone who doesn't. Be humbled, and trust not in your works to justify, but the work of Christ which is the only work that is able to please God."

May God help us to see the truth that being saved is not a free pass to do whatever you want, and that just because we're outwardly holy doesn't mean we're any closer to heaven.

Salvation is through Christ and Christ alone. It's a spiritual work of God that WILL produce outward change. Holiness and obedience do not produce a change in the inward man, but once the inward man is changed, those things will not absent. Thus the antinomian and the moralist are refuted.

Lord, grant us repentence of our sins, and of our dead works, help us to see that we are responsible for what we do, and that salvation is a thing that only You work in us. It's hard for us to reconcile those things, but favor us to do so. In Christ's most Precious and Holy name, and soley by the merit of His perfect atonement, Amen.

I understand what you are try to telling us of Matt. 25:1-13.

I have been read Matthew chapter 25 many times. There are three passages in Matthew chapter 25. The ten virgins of verse 1-13; The Talents of verse 14-30; and The Judgment Day of verse 31-46. All of these are so overwhelmed mention of conditional with warnings. Impossible to see security salvation such as unconditional security salvation as what baptist teaching. Most baptists are pretribulation. They saying of Matthew 25 is for Jews only. This is type of dispensationalism teaching. Some baptist pastors saying of the ten virgins are Jews in the tribulation period. Some baptist pastors saying of ten virgins apply to us, if we do not be ready and not have the oil, once the door closed, then miss the opporunity of salvation, that mean the seven year of tribulation period begins.

You have to understand, Christ use these passages of Matthew 25 as illustration apply our spiritual life with practical preparation to face judgment day. These are not take literally, but illustration to show us that He want us to understand about our spiritual life, what Christ expects us to do for Him. I can easily see warning in all three passages. Impossible to see unconditional security salvation in these passages.

At the first place all ten virgins did HAVE oil with them. All ten virgins did use oil. Show that they are already saved at the first place. Same with prodigal son of Luke chapter 15.

Then, aftrerward, while the five foolish virgins wasted their oil, and not think of being prepared at the last minute. The other five wise virgins are well prepared, and do not waste their oil, because they are aware and be prepared to meet their master anytime no matter during daytime or in the nighttime. Their master could come during daytime. I am sure that all ten virgins are easily coming to their master in the bright day, do not need their lamps. Why does Christ mentioned about their master coming at the midnight in the dark? Christ's point is, BE READY, have oil enough to put it in the lamp to light it on. Be prepared. Without have oil, impossible to see in the dark, or could be stumble and get hurt. The five wise virgins with remain oil, they do not waste their oil. Because they are aware that, never know what if their master come at the midnight, they ough always be ready, to preserve some oil left to light the lamp for nighttime in the dark, so they can walk in the dark with lamp to see the path lead them to master's place safety.

The five foolish virgins use oil too much and waste it too fast, not think of perseve some oil remain left for prepare to meet their master.

When the midnight comes, their master comes, the announcement cry that their master is arrival. The ten virgins hear the announcement. Then, all of them get up and get ready. But the five fool virgins do not have oil with them. Their oil are empty. They ask another five wise virgins for borrow oil from them. The five wise virgins told them, sorry cannot loan oil to them, because wise virgins need their oil to light their own lamps, to guide them on the path in the dark to meet their master safety. So, the five fool virgins have to be hurry begging any person for need oil. Once all five wise virgins enter into master's place, the door shut and closed. Then, the five fool virgins ran toward the door and knock beg their master to let them come in. Their master saying to them, 'Sorry I do not know you.' The door closed, it shows that the opporunity of salvation is toooooooo late.

It shows the picture of Christ's coming, once the thief come, angels shall grab unjust without expection and preparation in the air, and shall thrown them away into the fire.

That why Christ warns us that we ought be watch and be ready for His coming. Because his coming shall be like as thief.

What if we do not watch and ready, then we shall be end up as thief, and shall be cast away into the fire - everlasting punishment separate from God.

That is a serious warning from the Lord.

Impossible to see unconditional security salvation throughout chapter 25. I cannot find a single verse throughout the four gospels that, Christ teaching us of unconditional salvation. I can see so much overwhelmed condtional salvation with warnings of his teachings throughout the four gospels.

I don't see anything about a robe. I see 5 saved virgins and 5 unsaved virgins. When it came time for the wedding, the 5 unsaved asked the 5 saved for some of what they had which would get them into the wedding. The 5 saved responded with this thing we have (salvation) cannot be shared, you have to go get it where we got it.

I agree brother and I also note there in NO mention of robes, much less white robes or raiment.
What is of most note is that they had the APPEARANCE of godliness but were in fact not. They were virgins - this shows they DID what was expected (kept those commandments to appear unspotted) they claimed they were espoused (calling Christ Lord) they even had their works with them (lamps).

The difference was self suffiency (bringing no extra oil but rely on one ability to be suffient) the other is dependency. They depended not on their ability to maintain but Gods and is why they brought extra.

And when it came down to the hour of His calling the one group who were dependent upon their suffientcy realized it wasn't good enough it was to late for them. This is why the wise tell them to go and buy...we see they used they inability against them to show them their folly. But they still thought they could do it. They could still make it of their own suffiency. but when they came the door was shut and it was to late. They trusted in their ability to gain admittance but in the end it was the Wises dependency that saved them.

I'm not a Baptist, nor a dispensationalist. I'm Amillenial and I attend a Presbyterian church, which I'm shortly going to join, Lord willing. Just for the record.

I also don't consider much of anything Dan Corner says to be theologically sound. He is a moralist to the core. Too man-centered to be edifying. If you go back and read the post again, you'll see that both the antinomian and the moralist have twisted views of salvation. Dan Corner does good to refute antinomianism, but does nothing but turn whoever reads his work to some form of moralism. "If you smoke a cigar and drink a beer while listening to rock music, and you die before you repent, you'll go to hell." Though those things are frowned upon by most of Christianity, it isn't the acts themselves that sends one to hell, it's the inward nature of the sinful man that is more than enough to send him to hell.

Though I'm sure his intentions are good, he does nothing but make the sinner focus more on himself and his actions than on the finished work of Christ. He hates Calvinism and all Calvinists, anyone who says the Christ is the be all and end all of salvation. He completely ignores biblical teachings such as election,reprobation, predestination, and the complete soveriegnty of God. I've actually listened to and read a lot of his stuff, and I've never heard him refute anything but the strawman of OSAS, which in fact is not the true strawman of OSAS, but yet another one he makes and beats to death. The only reason he mentions things like election and predestination is because the Bible actually includes those words. He never expounds on them or anything.

He can't refute them, because they are there very clearly. He simply ignores them, and presses his desired point of anathamatizing (sp) any who believes in that one point. He does though, rightly refute much of the antinomian teachings today, but he is so off on everything else, I can't recommend anything he does.

Right now, the living saints on earth are not yet marry to Jesus Christ. The truly saints are already engaged with Jesus Christ of Eph. 4:30. Awaiting for our body to be redemption at Christ's coming, then we all shall be marry to Christ. That how we all shall receive white robe. White robe is for the overcomers only!

What if suppose a person failed to victory at the end, shall not receive robe, shall be ashamed at Christ's coming and shall be send to everlasting fire - Matt. 25:30.

Matt. 25:1-13 talking about be preparation and be watch and ready, or what we do not be preparation and ready, what will be happen to us at Lord's coming?

I want to make sure clear what you was actual saying to us about the ten virgins and robes when you will reply it to us.

Christ tells us, we cannot serve two masters at same time, we must serve one master all the time. Today, too many baptists, and other religions claim they follow Christ, yet they are practice sins daily. So, therefore, Christ doesn't approve them that they are his truly disciples while commit sins same time. There's lot of hyrocrites everywhere.

I am sure that many baptists always saying they do follow Christ, but I cannot see them at their home or anywhere while they are hide from me. Only God knows their secert deeds, while they are commit sins daily, so, no Christ is not hold their salvation while they are commit sins and serve two masters same time. They MUST choice their own master at a one time daily.

I just put that there since they were all called "Virgins" and so I figured they all had white robes on..

But Revelation does talk about how some "washed their robes" and so wouldnt there then be some with unwashed robes as well?

Not sure but it makes sense to me...

the key is that everyone I think, appeared to be THE SAME, till the test came and found some of them to be UNREADY...


I thought this was interesting... just as a side note... it sounds like the 10 Virgins Parable... only notice in this place HE comes to knock at THEIR DOOR.... instead of the other way around... but before that its talking about that guy who builds all the barns then God says that night his soul would be required (he dies)...

Good Morning!

Ahhhh! I have been read Rev. 7:14 many times. I never thought of this verse. It says, "and have WASHED THEIR ROBES, and made them WHITE in the blood of the Lamb."

Also, in Revelation chapter 14 talks about virgins. Virgins, these who are godly life and walk in the holy without sins.

At the first place, Christ called them 'virgins' of Matt. 25:1 - "ten virgins". So, therefore, they are also 'saints'. The word, 'saint' means, the holy one. All of them have lamps. No doubt, all of them must already have oil with them in the first place. Then, afterward, all of them did use oil to light their lamps. But, the 5 wise virgins manage oil correctly, not to waste oil so fast. The other five fool virgins use oil often so quickly, and not think of perserve some left of oil, for their preparation to meet their bridegroom. Because, they have no idea WHEN their bridegroom shall come. The five wise virgins are smart enough, that they are preparing and be aware of unexpecting appearing. Christ describes of His coming shall be LIKE AS "thief in the night" show that, it is suddenly appearing upon the world to be shocked and without expecting. So, the five wise virgins are not stupid, and they are aware of their bridegroom might come anaytime without expecting. Also, the five virgins are wise enough to save some oil left FOR night in case, what IF their bridegroom appearing during nighttime. They need oil to light lamps, so, they can walk in the path in the dark to use lamps to guide them toward their bridegroom's place.

The other five fool virgins do not think of being preparation to save some oil in case what if their bridegroom appear during nighttime. Because, they would stumble in the dark, cannot see the path, that mean, they could be easy get lost in the dark.

Back to Rev. 7:14 - 'Washed their robes'. In my mind, at the first place, they already "have" their robes, show that they did received or accept Christ at salvation. But, their robes are NOT yet being washed into 100% pure white as snow. Because they are being sanctified in the process during their lifetime. When once after a person trust and believe in Christ, then a person is already in the "Start line" for the race. A person is not yet already "offically" being label, 'overcomer' of Rev. 3:5. We are now in the race and walking on the narrow road of Matthew chapter 7. We are not yet reach to "Finish" line. Arrived at the "Finish" line - means, that we shall be finished and victory at our death or Lord comes. THEN, we shall be 'overcomer'. Right now, we are not yet overcomer. We are now soldier of Christ. We are in the battlefield without spiritual life.

Rev. 16:15 says: "Behold, I come as a thief Blessed is he THAT WATCHETH, and KEEPETH his garments. lest he walk naked, and they see his shame."

That means, we are responsible to watching and keeping my robe.

In my mind, we do not have literal 'robe'. But, in Eph. 1:13-14 telling us, when after we believe and trust in Christ, we are sealed with the Holy Spirit.

Securists often emphasis on Eph. 1:13 because of 'sealed' proved that we cannot lose our salvation, because the Holy Spirit already sealed in us.

Wait a minute. Ephesians 1:13 does not stop or end. Look next verse 14. It says, our inheritance is being down payment(earnest) UNTIL the redemption of the purchased possession. Ephesians 1:14 makes me think of engaged.

We are now engaged with Jesus Christ, that does not mean we are offically "married" with Christ at our salvation during our lifetime. Having Holy Spirit in us, Holy Spirit is the picture of 'being engaged'.

We all shall be marry to Jesus Christ of Revelation chapter 19 shall be take place AT the second coming after tribulation!!!!

Let's back to Rev. 7:14 again. Notice it says, 'keepeth his garment'. I understand it clearly, that means we must keep His commandments- John 14:15; Rev. 14:12; and other verses, so, we shall NOT be being 'naked' or ashamed at his coming.

What if we do not watch and be ready for His coming, then we would be cut off and cast into the fire in the Judgment Day.

Obivously, Matthew 25:1-13 talking about conditional with warning, it is speak to US as individual, not just for Jew sor supposed future tribulation saints.

Good Morning to you! To start with, this is where I get the idea that the "OIL" in the Virgin's Lamps is the Holy Spirit. I regard their "LAMPS" as their Bibles... the Word of God.. Ps:119:105: "Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path." The Ten Virgins all have a Lamp and they all have some oil at least for a time.

Zechariah 4:
1: And the angel that talked with me came again, and waked me, as a man that is wakened out of his sleep,
2: And said unto me, What seest thou? And I said, I have looked, and behold a candlestick all of gold, with a bowl upon the top of it, and his seven lamps thereon, and seven pipes to the seven lamps, which are upon the top thereof:
3: And two olive trees by it, one upon the right side of the bowl, and the other upon the left side thereof.
4: So I answered and spake to the angel that talked with me, saying, What are these, my lord?
5: Then the angel that talked with me answered and said unto me, Knowest thou not what these be? And I said, No, my lord.
6: Then he answered and spake unto me, saying, This is the word of the LORD unto Zerubbabel, saying, Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the LORD of hosts.
7: Who art thou, O great mountain? before Zerubbabel thou shalt become a plain: and he shall bring forth the headstone thereof with shoutings, crying, Grace, grace unto it.
8: Moreover the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,
9: The hands of Zerubbabel have laid the foundation of this house; his hands shall also finish it; and thou shalt know that the LORD of hosts hath sent me unto you.
10: For who hath despised the day of small things? for they shall rejoice, and shall see the plummet in the hand of Zerubbabel with those seven; they are the eyes of the LORD, which run to and fro through the whole earth.
11: Then answered I, and said unto him, What are these two olive trees upon the right side of the candlestick and upon the left side thereof?
12: And I answered again, and said unto him, What be these two olive branches which through the two golden pipes empty the golden oil out of themselves?
13: And he answered me and said, Knowest thou not what these be? And I said, No, my lord.
14: Then said he, These are the two anointed ones, that stand by the LORD of the whole earth.


With the thing about the Foolish Virgins at one time having Oil then its gone later and they arent ready.. First of all, Im thinking of the Parable of the Sower now... where Jesus says the Gospel seed is sown and some falls on good ground but some on not so good ground... cares of this world, etc come and snatch it away...

But when they get their the Master says he doesnt KNOW them... Its like they studied the Word of God but in a way not to actually get to know God... not having any real relationship with the Master. Just a theory of the Truth. You can know "the Truth" but just as a mere mental assent. Then when trials come like the parable of the house built on the Rock and the other built on sand... one house washes away in the flood.

Those are my thoughts so far as least. I think maybe that if we dont have the Holy Spirit as a guide when we are READING the Bible, it wont make any real changes in us... the Bible talks about washing us "in the Word" by the "regeneration of the Holy Ghost" (Im thinking now about those who "washed their robes") Its the Spirit that enlightens us as we read the Word of God and then sends the truth home to the heart to make it a part of us.


Ti:3:5: Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost

1Cor:6:11: And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.

Eph:5:26: That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word


These things I just said about the Holy Spirit and THE WORD (their Lamps) and being washed by the Word THROUGH the Spirit (THE OIL) is whats making the difference between the Wise and the Foolish Virgins, I believe.... at least so far thats how I see it.

But see, with the Parable of the Sower, they HAD the "enlightenment" of the Gospel, they "believed" the Bible says... they started out right. The Holy Spirit showed them the truth... but they didnt really develop a RELATIONSHIP with the Master. He ends up telling them He doesnt even KNOW them. Thus the Foolish Virgins start out with their Oil but at the end, like such as during trials... they show they dont have any ENDURING relationship with the Master. If you read back in the Revelation verse it says some wash their robes and it talks about going through tribulation.

The whole thing is they are all supposed to be "Lighting the Way" for everyone else for the coming of the Bridegroom, the second coming of Christ. Some are lighting the way and others arent. If you dont know God yourself how can you tell anyone else about Him?

"Arise, shine; for thy light is come, and the glory of the Lord is risen upon thee." Isa. 60:1.
"Behold," says the Scripture, "the darkness shall cover the earth, and gross darkness the people; but the Lord shall arise upon thee, and His glory shall be seen upon thee." Isa. 60:2.
This was the work He commissioned His disciples to do. "Ye are the light of the world," He said. "Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven." Matt. 5:14, 16.

The whole world is lying in darkness about the character of God. There is misapprehension about Him. People dont KNOW God and it is our job to light the way for the second coming of Christ.

Christ does not tell His followers strive to shine. He says, LET your light shine. If you have received the grace of God, the light is in you. We have to remove the obstructions, the sins, the cares of this world, and then the Lord's glory will be revealed. The light will shine forth to penetrate and dispel the darkness about God. You cannot help shining within the range of your influence to those all around you.

But no man can give to others that which he himself has not received. In the work of God, human beings can "originate" nothing. None of us can, by his own effort make himself a light bearer for God. [Zechariah 4:6] "Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the LORD of hosts"

It was the golden oil emptied by the heavenly messengers into the golden tubes, to be conducted from the golden bowl into the lamps of the sanctuary, that produced a continuous bright and shining light. It is the love of God continually transferred to man that enables him to impart light. Into the hearts of all who are united to God by faith the golden oil of love flows freely, to shine out again in good works, in real, heartfelt service for God.

Mt:5:16: Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.
