“In Bible college, I sometimes heard professors and chapel speakers say that a Christian college was the easiest place to backslide. What they said about Bible college applies as well to the ministry. The emphasis is simply that serving Christ cannot be a substitute for fellowship with Christ. Working for Him must never take the place of walking with Him.” – My old Baptist preacher, who would take time to teach at Bible classes at the local Seminary

I completely agree with your friend. When I was at seminary a few years ago it was all about doing things for "the Kingdom." I got so lost in my schoolwork and preparation for action, that I stopped reading the bible unless it was assigned. I was also lost in sin back then, as a lukewarm Christian. It is odd to me that seminary did not improve me spiritually, having said that.

Please define "walking with Him" and "working for him" and give examples of each.

Good point. I agreed maybe a little hastily.

rockytopva, are you saying seminary is always a theological graveyard or just in those unprepared for the journey, as I was?
