But it IS the tomb of Jesus. "Jesus" back in the day was like "Mike" today. jesus was one of the most popular names during that time.

:laugh: DNA? What would they compare it to? People seem willing to believe anything but the truth. Sad.

I don't know. Maybe Jesus with Maria or this guy who they think was his son. :rolleyes:

This stuff angers me. Everybody seems to jump on the da vinci code bandwagon trying to make some money. I hope that these people are held accountable for it.

1. Jesus, executed as a criminal, would not have been buried honorably with his family.
2. The tomb is in Jerusalem. Jesus' family is from Galilee.
3. Jesus' family was poor and would not have been able to afford a cave tomb and all the ossuaries.
4. No respected archaeologist (including Amos Kloner, the guy who made the find) or archaeological journal will endorse this "find", which is actually close to thirty years old.
5. DNA evidence can only tell us 1) that the people in the tomb are first-century, Palestinian Jews, and 2) that they're from the same family. No more than that can be deduced without a living direct descendent

But it makes a convenient excuse not to believe.

Jesus never "had" a tomb, in the first place. He just borrowed one for three days.

"He is not here, He is risen, as he said!"

BTW, I believe that 'borrowed tomb' to be "the Garden Tomb", for it is in the right place.

good points. Discovery channel airs the liberal anti-Christian propaganda on this coming Sunday March 4.

The tomb of Jesus,,,, is empty. Any other tomb, is not the biblical Jesus, and they have no possible way of proving it is Him.

How can they say this? 600:1? Are they crazy or just lying? 600:1 would be a sure thing. And if they all agreed why didn't they come up with it 30 years ago?

I would not get too upset about this.

It is a case of sensationalism + greed = $en$ationali$m plus a desire to discredit the most predominant religion in America.

It has no backing among serious scholars who are simply interested in the truth. For the most part, the only people who will buy into it are those who want to.

These charlatans are gloating their way to the bank. That is sad and disgusting. However, unless they repent of their charlatani$m, the final and eternal installment of their wages will not be something they gloat over. The One most dishonored by it will deal with it Himself and will do so with perfect justice.

Dever, a retired professor of archaeology at the University of Arizona, said that some of the inscriptions on the Talpiyot ossuaries are unclear, but that all of the names are common.
"I've know about these ossuaries for many years and so have many other archaeologists, and none of us thought it was much of a story, because these are rather common Jewish names from that period," he said. "It's a publicity stunt, and it will make these guys very rich, and it will upset millions of innocent people because they don't know enough to separate fact from fiction."

I would urge a note of caution here.

1. They are using valid principles of statistics to calculate the odds of these names all appearing in a single tomb "by accident". It is the same calculation as one might do for "what are the odds that 6 people in a large crowd would all be friends having this set of names". I don't know that the "statistics" math itself is the problem.

2. It is conceivable that Mary of Magdala who did annoint the feet of Jesus for burial and who went to his tomb for embalming - might later have funded a place as a well marked burial cave for his relatives.

3. Since we have the Jerusalem council in Acts 15 pre-70AD it is possible that some key members of the early Christian church remained in or around Jerusalem.

4. Since the practice for the ossuary collection was to pick up the bones of the dead as much as a year later and then move them into an ossuary - they people may not all have died in Jerusalem.

5. Jesus is called "Jesus Son of David" in the NT by His followers - not "Jesus Son of Joseph" and since Jesus is a "common name" it is likely that someone else in Mary's family had that name as well by the time you reach 70 A.D.

6. The Jews of Jesus' day and the NT church age were very very annoyed by the Christian "sect" and would have done anything to squash it. The Christians were claiming a bodily resurrection "from the start" so an easy "discredit" would have been to go to this extremely well marked family tomb and ponit to his ossuary that would
be well known by all around.

Notice that John the Baptist's followers did not have to claim "he was resurrected" to uphold him as a great man of God. Doing so would have made it incredibly easy to discredit any group still having faith in the ministry of John. They could never adopt such an easily disproved claim right from the very start - and still hold the group together.

The bottom line is - if it turned out that these names are related to Mary in some way it would not matter to the Christian faith. But "Jesus Son of David" who is in fact "Jesus Son of God" could not be there since He experienced a bodily resurrection on week-day-one. Another tactic used on that show and on the history channel's show about Noah aired at the same time is to find some liberal Christians whose faith is so shallow that they really don't need anything in the Bible to be true to cling to the "kind of Christianity" that they adopt. One that does NOT set the world on fire with evangelism. One that does NOT seek and saved the lost - it merely corrupts the faith of the saints.

Just to make sure that I understand it correct. Did it happen this way here:

1)They find the tomb.

2)Then they look at the names and think this could be Jesus' grave,

3)And then they compared the DNA of Jesus to the DNA of Mary and found out that they don't match and this means they are not related and then they thought: Yes, that has to be a family grave containing Jesus' and Mary's body.

Is this how their thoughts progresses?

But somehow this stuff still worries me a bit. Especially those numbers. If the 600:1 is really correct then this means it's almost sure. :confused:
And who knows if Cameron has a few secret things which nobody knows about which he will present the world today? What if this is the great delusion which God sends to humans?`I listened to a sermon about this and the pastor made it look as if God wants to separate the real christians from the false ones. Does this means that these things are not from Satan but from God? :eek:
But what if real christians are confused by this, too? Are all it also confuses me. :(

Where do you think they got DNA to compare?
If you take any tomb, and find a family there, and try and get DNA samples, and if you do, and you compare them all together, guess what you'll find. A related family, that shares DNA. This in no way proves that the bones are Jesus, or Mary or anyone else from the bible.

Why is it bad? For the past 2000 years there have been people who deny the deity of Christ. There's nothing new under the sun. Why should it rock your faith? Jesus is alive and well. His bones are not here. They are with Him.

how can it even be scientifically possible to come up with a high probability when all they can possibly do is test DNA from person #1 to DNA from person #2, without knowing for sure who either person is.So what is person #1 is related to person #2, it is exactly as you would expect in a family tomb, what does it have to do with Jesus Christ? Nothing! Jesus wasn't buried in a family tomb, He was buried in a borrowed tomb, why, because He wasn't going to stay there permanently, He only needed it a few days.
No matter how those tests come out, it can not be bad, why, we know Jesus is not in any tomb. Satan wants people to doubt the resurection of Jesus. As christains we can be asured it is true.
