Calling into the bookstore today I came across a book called "The Trouble with Islam" - a muslim womans call for reform in her faith.

It is written by a muslim lady called Irshad Manji who seems to be a popular speaker in some religious circles across the globe.

It so happened that I had seen an interview with her on T.V and she was talking about how she had been to Israel and had placed a prayer in the wall where the Orthodox and other Jews go to pray before Sabbath.

She brings up a number of points about Jew hating and arabic domination of Islam that I find surprising. Considering what happened to Salman Rushdie who wrote the Satanic Verses I am surprised that she goes out in public.

I found a link to her site and I wondered what your thoughts are on the ideas that she is presenting.

Just to note that this is not about either promoting or using it as an opportunity to sledge islam, but to have a look at the issues that she is talking about and our reation to that in a reasonable manner.

Not to slam Islam however Jesus did say "I am the way, and the truth, and the life, no one comes to the Father but by me." Jn 14:6

Islam denies Jesus as Lord and is therefore a false religion. Islam does recognize Him as a prophet, but nothing more. As far as Muslims go, they are made in the image of the one true God and is therefore entitled to dignity and respect. God loves them as well and Christ died for them too.

Many people think we all worship the same God but note this:
The Bible refers to Jesus as the only begotten of the Father
The Koran refers to Jesus as Not the Son of God because God is too Holy the He should have Children. So is the God of Mohammad the Father of Jesus?

    He is not!

    Ben said:

"Considering what happened to Salman Rushdie who wrote the Satanic Verses I am surprised that she goes out in public."

The difference, I think, is that Rushdie directly insulted Mohammed and that he was feuding with the mullahs of Iran, who exercise both secular and civil power.

I've seen her on Book TV a couple of times and found her interesting, but I don't know how much her positions — those of a rationalist, femininst, lesbian Muslim who accepts the existence of Israel and resents the Arabic domination of Muslim culture — will resonate outside a limited Western audience.

I met an Arab who had become a Christian who said that the Arabic confession that God does not have a son uses the word 'walad' which refers to physical offspring. He said that the Christian confession is that Christ is the 'Ibn (Son) of God, not the 'walad' of God. I think he used this in evangelizing and other aspects of the AQ.

The Qur'an says that Jesus is the Word of God.

I wonder if you can ask your friend the significance of some Arabic names using ibn and not walad ?

Like Abdul ibn Salam ? (I just made up this name as an example).

I've seen some Arabic names written like this, though.

Here is an a part of the introduction to the book.

"Why are we all being held hostage by what's happening between the Palestinians and the Israelis? Whats with the stubborn streak of Anti Semitism in Islam? Who is the real coloniser of Muslims - America of Arabia? Why are we squandering the talents of women, fully half of Gods creation? How can we be so sure that Homosexuals deserve ostrcism or death when the Koran states that everything God made is "Excellent"? Of course the Koran states much more than that, but what is our excuse for reading the Koran literally when it is so contradictory and ambiguous.

Is that a heart attack that you are having? Make it fast. Because if we dont speak out against the imperialism within Islam, these guys will walk away with the show, And there path leads to a dead end of more vitiol, more violence, more poverty, more exclusion. Is this the justice that we seek for the world that God has leased to us? If it is not why do more of us not say so?"

I know nothing more about this woman than what is in this thread.

    Conclusions based on that.

    1. She is trying to sound "nicey-nice" "let's all just get along" and try to "put a stop to the extremists".
    2. She is really not much different than the "Christian" people who offer the same pablum. "Can't we all just get along?"
    3. Her goals are not "Glory to God in the highest" but rather "Glory to mankind the highest".
    4. Homosexual advocacy. "Homosexuals...excellent"
    5. Peace in the middle east by way of appeasing the Palestinians.
    6. Clearly an attempt to further the global scope of Ecumenicism.

Just my opinons. For what it's worth.

The following is taken from this woman's web page:
"If God did not want to make me, presumably He would have made someone else, yes? My opponent might say: But He did make someone else – straight people! Sure, I would say, and He made brown people, and female people, and people with disabilities and people with IQs over 120. Does that mean God never wanted white people and male people and able-bodied people and people with IQs under 120?

And the fact that He did make me – does that mean God never wanted straight people?

In the end, both the Judeo-Christian tradition and Islam affirm that we are creatures of the Almighty, so that knowledge of the self and knowledge of God are synonymous. Which means denial of the self keeps us separated from God (otherwise known as sin).

We have a duty to grow into our faith by constantly revealing ourselves to our maker. Coming out to our creator, then, is not just an option. At a certain point, coming out might be an obligation.

And who am I to shirk my duty?"
    -------------------------------------------------

That which I have put in bold plainly shows for all to see that this woman is anti-christ.
Was it not Jesus who said, "Deny thyself, take up thy cross and follow me?"

This woman says that to deny oneself, is sin.

She has accused Jesus of advocating sin.

    I rest my case.

    In HIS service;
    Jim

The peaceful people of Islam are the weak of their faith. Islam teaches violence twards anyone that opposes them. Go to the following site:http://www.bible.ca/islam/islam-moon-god.htm

This is an excellent site that will explain the total falsity of Islam. Allah is NOT God and therefore we must understand that it is a radical religion bent on the destruction of every Christian Period!!

This will reveal that Islam is nothing more than the resurrection of Moon god worship.

Quote from site: The moon god was also referred to as "al-ilah". This is not a proper name of a single specific god, but a generic reference meaning "the god". Each local pagan Arab tribe would refer to their own local tribal pagan god as "al-ilah".
"al-ilah" was later shortened to Allah before Muhammad began promoting his new religion in 610 AD.
There is evidence that Hubal was referred to as "Allah".

You will see on this site that the bible is against any such moon worship.

You will find that Mohammad was more of a poet than theologin.

Study and you will find that true Islam has a hatred for Christians and for Jews. As I said before. The peaceful ones are the ones that are weak in their faith. Just as weak Christians portray Christianity in a different light.

Islam has not bettered mankind in any culture they have dominated. They have done nothing but opress their people.

Contrary to what alot of people are led to believe, Islam does not mean "peace". Salam means "peace". Islam means "submission". Guess what happen if you don't "submit"?
