The kids were on the bike-trail bridge cheering the "Choo Choo" along. This train is hauling coal out of West Virginia. It has ridden the New River up into Virginia where it will cross a continental divide and then ride down the mountain into Roanoke.
1. The engines really struggle making it over the mountain
2. You can see the engines putting sand on the track for traction
3. The New River flows north ends up in the Gulf of Mexico
4. The Roanoke River flows east and ends up in the Atlantic Ocean
5. The engines also struggle keeping the train slow going down the mountain
6. The whole rail between the New River and Roanoke River is quite the engineering feat!
7. Very scenic on what we call the "Huckleberry Trail" between Christiansburg and Blacksburg
