The ultimate healing for pianist Roger Bennett ...

    Roger Bennett joined the legendary Cathedral Quartet in November of 1979 and quickly became one of Southern Gospel's favorite pianists. In 1993 he was voted America's favorite Southern Gospel Pianist, an award he won for 11 consecutive years.

    Upon retirement from the Cathedrals, along with Scott Fowler, Roger formed a group to continue the tradition of great quartet singing. Legacy Five began touring in January 2000.

    Roger lost his battle with lukemia on March 17, 2007. He will be missed by so many.

    How right you are, dearest Gayla! The Cathedrals and Legacy Five both very good groups. I miss the Cathedrals! I imagine Anthony, Jake, Vestal and others chiming in with them ...

    I got home from the Roger Bennett funeral today with requests for an update of the services. The crowd was huge, the presentation was first class, and the Holy Spirit was there allowing all of Roger's friends and family to say Goodbye.

    Legacy 5 sang "IN HIS GRIP" and "JESUS SAVES", both written by Roger. Scott Fowler led the congregation in singing Roger's two favorite hymns, "WHAT A FRIEND WE HAVE IN JESUS" and "VICTORY IN JESUS". There were several video presentations during the service. They all showed Roger at different ages and different times of his life and his career.

    Dr. Phil Hoskins spoke and challenged he audience to continue to live their normal life as Roger would have wanted. He said we should all develop a positive attitude like Roger had. Even in the midst of trying times. His most memorable statement was "Grief is the price we pay for the ability to Love. WOW!

    Glenda McDonald, Chaplain at MD Anderson Cancer Center came to the podium and shared how Roger had influenced so many people while he was in the hospital. She shared that one of Rogers doctor's was very reserved, very dignified, but after Roger had been there a while, the staff saw this Doctor actually smiled when coming out of Roger's room. She said all the staff commented that Roger had made a change in this man. Now that's the Roger Bennett I remember!

    Jordan, Roger's son, came and shared a special "Goodbye" song for his dad. It was an emotional moment.

    The service ended with a video presentation of Legacy 5 singing "WE ARE HOME". What a great way to end the service.

    Please continue to pray for Debbie, Chelsea, Jordan and Doug ...
