Theology of Death

Two books on this subject come to mind. One by Erwin Lutzer called One Minute after you die, and another by Mark Cahill called One Heartbeat away. The first is a theological treatment of the subject written from a Presuppositional apologetic perspective. The second is more of an apologetics/evangelism book written from an evidentialist perspective. What troubles me about the second book is that the author thinks that when a sinner dies he or she goes right to the lake of fire. Studying biblical theology this is a false assumption as the Lake of Fire is the second death. However the author will not listen and insists that people that die today go to the lake of fire instantly. Have any of you read these books and what are your takes?

I don't want to weight in on the "after death" issue, but this is the first time I heard Lutzer was a presuppositionalist. Interesting.

Lutzer's book is outstanding. The video series is well worth using. We used it for a Sunday night series.

It earns 5 stars on amazon.com! However his book wont persuade someone who is an atheist unless the spirit of God convicts them first (Psa 19). Cahill writes with the assumption that the reader does not believe in the Bible and uses lots of evidences to prove its authority.

That's true for even the Cahill book. The apologetics mean nothing without the work of the Holy Spirit.

I would also recomend Ligon Duncan's "FEAR NOT: Death and the afterlife from a Chrsitian perspective."

Isn't the lake of Fire mentioned in Revelation as being the Final state of those who died without Chrsit as Saviour?

They will be "on hold" until after the Great White Throne judgement, when ALL sinners are deposited by God into there?

There are allot of books on this subject. I think 2 is enough for me.
