Wow, they really did show restraint. Guess his skin just happened to be the right color because if he'd been black, his family would be preparing for a funeral.

Or maybe the Mission Bay police get better training?

Or maybe the Mission Bay police have a different caliber of policemen/women?

What are the actual stats on shootings by Mission Bay police? When was the last time they shot a black man? How many blacks/whites/others have they shot?

Or are you just spouting histrionics?

Ummm....we don't know that. What do we know?

1. This guy had a gun. Is it against the law to own a gun? No.

2. This guy was not threatening anyone. He had not been identified as a criminal. There was not a warrant out for his arrest (that we know). He's does not have a criminal record (I presume they could have found this out by running his car's license plate)

3. Really, there was no reason to shoot this guy. They should have talked him down and gotten him to lay the gun on the ground.

No need to shoot this guy, even though they did. Cops don't shoot people in the leg. They shoot to kill. Apparently the shooter missed.

Fits with Zaac's talking points. That is all that makes it newsworthy.

Yes we do know it. The guy, in the words of Neal Boortz, would be dead right there.
1. This guy had a gun. Is it against the law to own a gun? No.

Nope.

2. This guy was not threatening anyone. He had not been identified as a criminal. There was not a warrant out for his arrest (that we know). He's does not have a criminal record (I presume they could have found this out by running his car's license plate)

Seriously? This man is waving his gun to the point that kids are running and hiding and he threatened to shoot the guy who shot the video. He points the gun at officers and tells them that he will shoot them. They then shoot him in what looks to be his leg[CORRECTION: Reports now say they shot him in the abdomen] and then spend another half hour trying to convince him to move away from his gun?

Tamir Rice got 2 seconds. Dead.
No reports of any of the the unarmed black men getting anything near what would be considered time. No reports of any sort of police officers trying not to kill them.

But Walter Scott gets shot in the back trying to run away. Dead. And we're to believe that he was more of a threat than this guy waving a gun threatening to shoot people?

Freddie Gray, DEAD, subdued and handcuffed but manages to get his voicebox crushed and his vertebrae snapped. Did he pose more of a threat than this man?

Unfortunately what we are seeing is the social conditioning where white police officers do not see value in the lives of Blacks as they do with their white counterparts.

It's a dirty ugly truth that we don't want to acknowledge. But it is what it is.

3. Really, there was no reason to shoot this guy. They should have talked him down and gotten him to lay the gun on the ground.

But there was reason to shoot Tamir Rice?Anthony Hill? Tony Robinson?Rumain Brisbon? Akai Gurley?Kajieme Powell?John Crawford ? And many , many more.

All unarmed but somehow deemed to be so dangerous that they needed to be killed, but a man waving a gun who is actually threatening gets treated with kid gloves.

No need to shoot this guy, even though they did. Cops don't shoot people in the leg. They shoot to kill. Apparently the shooter missed.

Tamayo then "pointed his gun recklessly at various people in the park," at a police helicopter circling overhead and at the nearby officers, prompting one of them to shoot him in the abdomen, Del Toro alleged.

The suspect fell to the ground, but his gun remained within reach and he continued failing to comply with the officers' commands, Del Toro said. Finally, the personnel were able to subdue him with non-lethal rounds and take him into custody.

One would have to admit that better training is needed for some reason first.

I don't care what the stats are on shootings by Mission Bay police. I'm speaking to this one and what every truthful person knows would be the case if that had been a black man waving a gun around threatening to shoot someone. Gosh we got case after case of black men waving NOTHING and they were shot dead.
Or are you just spouting histrionics?

White privilege blinds you to their reality as histrionics. But that's just keeping with how white privilege has responded the last 400 years.

Of course kids are going to run when they see a man with a gun in a park. Yes, he did point the gun at the guy with the camera for a second or so. That could be a coincidence. But for an ordeal that lasted more than an hour the footage they show has the guy walking forward with gun pointed in front of him and then he points it into the air. Another clip shows him pointing the gun into the air.

He points the gun at officers and tells them that he will shoot them.

That wasn't in the video link you posted.

Waving his gun, yes, mostly into the air. Where in the video is it reported that he verbally threatened to shoot the police?

I believe they have changed part of the video because the guy who was recording it mentioned something about the helicopter and him threatening the police.

The following story also mentions it:

See above. Looks like they have changed the video that I originally linked. But the cameraman mentioned it and subsequent stories have mentioned it.

Um...no. It would mean that Mission Bay made a conscious decision to train their police officers to more than just a "minimum standard," not that they needed to.

One would have to admit that they needed a better caliber policeman/woman first.
Again, no. All we have to admit is that Mission Bay possibly has a more stringent hiring standard, not that they needed to.

We have case after case in other parts of the country. We have NO evidence that your statement is true for Mission Bay.

White privilege blinds you to their reality as histrionics. But that's just keeping with how white privilege has responded the last 400 years.
You have no idea what my skin color is. But because I choose to remain rational, whereas you've apparently lost any capability of rational thought and objectivity on this subject, you've decided that I'm white and I'm exercising privilege.

Who's the racist?

We don't have any evidence that it's not. But I've yet to see such stories about police officers showing such restraint with black suspects who were waving guns. I've seen time and time again black suspects killed for a whole lot less. So I stand by what I said. If he were black, his family would be making funeral preparations.

Man I've been doing this for years. I know white privilege when I see it. I don't have to have your picture sitting on my desk to know when someone has been conditioned by white privilege. When people have been doing the same thing the same way for 400 years, there are things you just know.
Who's the racist?

Deducing that you have been conditioned by white privilege has nothing to do with racism.

Should I do like yall do now and brand you a race baiter?

So even though this is Mission Bay, not Ferguson, they're automatically guilty?

Wow, they really did show restraint. Guess his skin just happened to be the right color because if he'd been black, his family would be preparing for a funeral.

Really? What about the white guy beaten senseless out in San Bernardino County last week? Ten cops of all colored skin, had a hand in the beating!

Nevertheless, I guess in your race baiting, racially divided world, the incident you shared came down to whites being treated fairly and blacks just being shot dead!

The reason I've never been beaten, had a gun pulled on me, tazed or shot by a cop is because I cooperated with them. I realized that they were there to administer and uphold the law, plus they had guns. I did not want do anything foolish to give them the right to escalate the methods in how they were going to handle me during the confrontation! When a cop knocks at my door, or pulls me over in the car, I am going to be cool and collect and give them no reason to do anything but what they initiated the confrontation for!

Are there out of control cops? You'd better believe it! Even so, because I realize there are bad cops, I take every precaution to make sure I walk or drive away from the conversation with them, ALIVE and WELL. My color had nothing to do with the peaceful ending to the run-in with the cops, and everything to do with my cooperating and being civil with them and providing respect for the office they are in: law enforcement!

Nine times out of ten, those folks that get injured or killed when a cop has to intervene, get hurt or killed because they resisted, mouthed off, gave attitude, and sent a signal to the cop that they wanted to take this confrontation to the next level. I believe that people reap what they sow, in most cases!

I know you are going to disagree, but that is your civil right as well as the purpose of this board. So try not to debate me by calling names or insinuating unkind nouns, adjectives, verbs or adverbs when tying out your rebuttal, son!

Professionalism and pride?

Guilty of what? They didn't kill anyone. I only said they would have had he been black and doing the same thing.

There; you've condemned this particular police force of racism, when you've provided NO evidence to indicate anyone in their ranks has EVER shot a black person.

It's known as an over-generalization error.

I didn't say that YOU had.
"Y'all" is an inclusive word; you used it towards me, in context of a group on this board that you continually refer to as racist. So yes, you did say that I had.

As compared to what? Something would have to be spurring them along.

There; you've condemned this particular police force of racism, when you've provided NO evidence to indicate anyone in their ranks has EVER shot a black person.

I didn't condemn anyone of anything. I said that if the guy were Black, his family would be making funeral arrangements.

It's known as an over-generalization error.

Nope. It's known as reality. Now ask your black friends or co-workers, if the guy had been Black, do they think he would still be alive?

Privilege allows you to see what you want to see. The people who have seen folks who look like them getting gunned down everyday will tell you how it really is.

"Y'all" is an inclusive word; you used it towards me, in context of a group on this board that you continually refer to as racist. So yes, you did say that I had.

If it doesn't apply to YOU, then YOU aren't in the yall. ANd I haven't referred to the board as racist so take that lie back. There are a whole lot of racially prejudiced and racist personalities on this "Christian" board.

And actually we probably need to stop calling it a Christian board because I see more ugliness on this board everyday than I see in the lost world.

Oh, I suspect it won't take you long to start slinging the innuendo.[/QUOTE]

You suspect a lot of things that aren't necessarily the truth.

I don't have to "innuend". I have NO PROBLEM saying exactly what I want to say when I want to say it.

What? You've never done something out of personal pride? You've never been a part of an organization that says "we're going to be recognized by all our customers as the best at what we do"?

I didn't condemn anyone of anything. I said that if the guy were Black, his family would be making funeral arrangements.
Oh, please. You just spoke out of both sides of your mouth. "I didn't condemn anyone." "I don't know anything about this particular police department, but if the guy had been black, he'd be dead." That's called "judgment"; and it leads to condemnation; and that's what you've done, my friend.

Nope. It's known as reality. Now ask your black friends or co-workers, if the guy had been Black, do they think he would still be alive?
And I tell them the same thing: "Over-generalization" is when you paint everyone the same because of the actions of a few. Like saying "all black people are athletic, but not smart." It's a logical fallacy, and it's offensive.

Privilege allows you to see what you want to see. The people who have seen folks who look like them getting gunned down everyday will tell you how it really is.
I see people who look like me *every day* getting stopped, harassed, arrested, beat up, and yes, shot. How it really is, is that most of them -- including ones I personally know -- were actually in situations that were illegal.

If it doesn't apply to YOU, then YOU aren't in the yall.
So - does it apply to me? If not, then why did you include me in that group?

ANd I haven't referred to the board as racist so take that lie back. There are a whole lot of racially prejudiced and racist personalities on this "Christian" board.

What? You've never done something out of personal pride?

Yep and it's always been because I witnessed something that pushed me towards it.

You've never been a part of an organization that says "we're going to be recognized by all our customers as the best at what we do"?

Yep and it's always been because they didn't want to be known as their competitors were known.

Oh, please. You just spoke out of both sides of your mouth. "I didn't condemn anyone." "I don't know anything about this particular police department, but if the guy had been black, he'd be dead." That's called "judgment"; and it leads to condemnation; and that's what you've done, my friend.

That's called reality. And you're being silly. I have no problem being righteously judgmental as Scripture calls me to be. You and others need to get a grip on the reality that black people are dealing with everyday.

So I say again, ask your friends and co-workers if that guy would still be alive if he were black? You ALREADY know the answer because you ALREADY know the reality of the world in which we live.

And I tell them the same thing: "Over-generalization" is when you paint everyone the same because of the actions of a few. Like saying "all black people are athletic, but not smart." It's a logical fallacy, and it's offensive.

Look, I get it that most white people view anything to do with the police as challenging their authority. That's why so many folks are always asking why the black men "didn't just cooperate" or saying stuff like "he wouldn't be dead if he just hadn't resisted arrest".

The relationship of Blacks with the police isn't the same as is the relationship of Whites with the police. Whites haven't been treated the way that Blacks have by police.

So you say over-generalization and Blacks will tell you that you can't overgeneralize the truth.

I see people who look like me *every day* getting stopped, harassed, arrested, beat up, and yes, shot. How it really is, is that most of them -- including ones I personally know -- were actually in situations that were illegal.

How many are dead? How many folks that you see everyday who look like you are being shot dead by the police ? How many are you seeing with their voice boxes crushed and their spines broken into? How many folks who look like you are you seeing jumped on the streets and choked and sent into cardiac arrest? How many kids who look like you are you seeing shot and killed within two seconds of a police officer arriving on the scene? How many folks like you are you seeing killed because they pick up a toy gun in a Wal Mart?

When the folks who look like you aren't being killed for doing the same things that Blacks are doing, I guess I can see how you'd think it's an over-generalization.

But I repeat, their reality with the police isn't the same as your reality with the police.

So ask your black friends.

So - does it apply to me? If not, then why did you include me in that group?

You know better than I do if it applies to you. How can I include you in something that doesn't apply to you? Like I said, if it doesn't apply to you, then YOU aren't included in the Y'all.

And there you go calling people racist.

You have the audacity to say what you do after this in correcting me after telling yet another lie? Did I not say a whole lot of racially prejudiced and racist personalities?

If I want to point out INDIVIDUALS as racist or racially prejudiced, you can be darn sure that I will.

Oh, and I didn't say you referred to the board as racist; I said you refer to a group of people on this board as racist. So you take your lie back.

I take back my lie. You said group. Now lets see if you take back the litany you've told.

You here to evangelize us?

Is US lost?

And yet, you continually try to say that you haven't called anyone racist, when it's evident that you're calling people on this board racist...hmm....

What's evident is that you have a reading problem and YOU are a LIAR. See how easy it was for me to type that? Likewise, if I want to call someone on this board a racist, you can QUOTE it because that's exactly what you will see typed on the screen.
