This State Just Voted to Ignore ALL Obama’s Executive Orders

...The first bill, Arizona House Bill 2368, introduced by Rep. Bob Thorpe (R-Flagstaff), prevents the state of Arizona from funding any executive orders issued by President Obama, or policy directives issued by the Department of Justice.

The Arizona State Legislature website described the bill as prohibiting “this state or any of its political subdivisions from using any personnel or financial resources to enforce, administer or cooperate with an executive order issued by the President of the U.S. that has not been affirmed by a vote of Congress and signed into law as prescribed by the U.S. Constitution.” (H/T OpposingViews.com)

However, the defiant bill does not stop there. It also “prohibits this state or any of its political subdivisions from using any personnel or financial resources to enforce, administer or cooperate with a policy directive issued by the U.S. DOJ to law enforcement agencies in this state that has not been affirmed by a vote of Congress and signed into law as prescribed by the U.S. Constitution.”

The legislation, if passed, would effectively make Arizona independent of federal laws.

The second bill, House Bill 2643, stops state and local governments from using state funds to enforce and implement the Affordable Care Act.

Both bills passed the Arizona House and will now move to the Senate.

This is stupid. If Arizona Repubs want to play games, then cut 'em off. Construct a barrier around the state. They get no shipments of anything without going through customs just like every other foreign nation.

You can't drive on our roads. You can't fly in our airspace. You can't use our power grid.

If they want to be independent of the rest of the United States, then let them be.

Bunch of hypocrites considering what they are doing.

Hopefully other states will follow suit.

States do not have to follow unconstitutional laws. Just because the President wrote an executive order does not mean it is automatically constitutional. Sorry.

Just because a state passes a law does not mean it is automatically constitutional. Sorry.

Perhaps they should have spent taxpayer money on directly challenging questionable executive orders, rather than mounting a defense that has virtually no chance of succeeding?

In other words, instead of actually overturning the president's overreach, it looks like it's mainly just posturing to have us believe "well, we tried."

Read the OP a little closer. The Arizonans didn't vote to disregard Federal statutory law. They voted to disregard non-statutory Executive Orders.

If only the powers-that-be would be so gracious as to let a state (or states) secede PEACEFULLY from the Union.

Feel free to secede. After you pay back all of those federal dollars. I say gladly cut off anyone who doesn't want to be part of the union.

Unless you've got a block of states right next to each other who can comfortably supply all of their needs, you could literally bankrupt into third world status any type of rogue "nation-state".

Arizona isn't exactly known for producing food and they don't have the most water. Divert the Colorado River and let them secede.

You mean all the money collects from the people and subsequently wastes? I don't think so.

If the states involved included Texas, I think we could survive.

But speaking of "literally bankrupt into third world status", what do you think will be the end result of such obscene overspending and waste on a national scale? Heck, what of the fate of several large Democratic-run cities now?

Yes, those monies that are above and beyond taxes collected from Arizona to pay for federal services, infrastructure, etc. We'll promptly expect payment upon secession.

Nope. No Texas

I don't know what it will be. .I know what it will be for Arizona. Please secede.

You're kidding yourself if you don't think Texas (with or without like-minded states) wouldn't or couldn't go it alone under the right set of circumstances.

I didn't say I didn't believe Texas couldn't. Texas would be one of the largest economies in the world if it decided to secede.

But that's why we're not giving Arizona Texas. If they want to secede, then fly solo. We're gonna run it in the ground.

Okay, I misunderstood you. I'm glad you recognize that about Texas.

But that's why we're not giving Arizona Texas.
If it came down to it, it wouldn't be a question of "we" not "giving Arizona Texas"; it would be what Texas wanted to do.

But my point is that Arizona is not alone in it's view of Obama's executive orders and of some federal laws (ie ACA). There are SEVERAL states that feel the same way. Arizona is not even talking about secession, but if this ever became a more desirable possibility for those frustrated with the continued lawlessness in D.C, then it would not be the only state wanting to leave.

Texans aren't really pushing for Texas to go anywhere either. Too much to lose.

They aren't going anywhere with or without Texas. This is simply about GOP disrespect for a President. Presidents have always made contentious executive orders. If they weren't contentious, they would have just gone through Congress.

You tell enough folks in Arizona and Texas that if they secede, that means no more NCAA football or basketball, no NBA and no NFL, that in itself would shoot it down.
