Those new "energy saving" bulbs

They are faulty. Here's an article about it.

The last Congress passed a bill where soon the old light bulbs will be unavailable and it will be mandatory to buy these new so-called energy savers, all made in China. It was signed into law by Pres. Bush. 2014 is the deadline for the change over.

We have started stock piling the regular old non-energy saving light bulbs whenever they are on sale. We will soon have enough to last us for the next 20 years or until we end up in the nursing home, whichever comes sooner, lol. :laugh:

We are slowly converting to them.. I always HATED changing light bulbs... so I like these because of their long life...
Plus I like the look of them in our ceiling fan lights.. the ones with the flower like globes... I am weird but I like the look of them.

We've been doing it slowly also and we're just about finished. I can only think of about 3 or 4 bulbs that haven't been changed to energy saver. Some give off more light for less money than their predecessor.

We switched over three years ago and haven't changed a single bulb in all that time.

Always wear gloves when working with them in case the break. They must be disposed of with care, I know that we have facilities for them in Ontario.

Mine are rated for 8000 hours. Our hydro bill is at the lowest possible rate........minimum charge and delivery cost.......Love the savings and convenience, and I am not afraid of China.....as much as things smashed together in North American plants!

That would be the perfect bulb to use if you were trying to crawl under an electric fence after a rainstorm.... not that the highlighted words would be referring to anyone who may have posted on this thread, mind you...:laugh::wavey:

I am continuing use of the incadescent bulbs, as the mercury in the CFLs is an environmental hazard. If tungsten filaments were good enough for my grandpappy, they're good enough for me! :laugh:

Yup, that's right. They contanimate our environment with mercury. If you break one you need to call a haz-mat company to come and clean it up. Why would anyone want to bring that posion into their home?

Another case of the cure being worse than the sickness.

I've always liked to see the newpaper pictures--------say, down in Mississippi----there's an environmental contamination---an 18 wheeler filled with Benzene has overturned and the contents is belchin' out onto the ground like Niagra Falls

Over near the "spill" is the HAZMAT "boys" decked out in their white coveralls and heavy boots---with Oxygen tanks on their backs and masks on their faces----on top of that---they have their heads covered with the same material used in those coveralls--------like they're fixin' to clean up some sort of Nerve Gas

Right next to the HAZMAT boys is the Sheriff gettin' involved in crowd control or somethin'-----no special clothing on---just his daily uniform and sidearm----and he's smokin' a cigarette!!!

These new bulbs are much more hazardous to our planet than the old ones. They cost more to make, create more hazardous waste, and are only economically viable in communities with the highest electricity costs. But due to governmental intervention they are our future.

I sure hope you all refuse to enter all the shops using row upon row of inline fluorescent lamps. They contain mercury also and have been used for almost as many years as I can remember.

Pressurized spray cans have an explosive danger as well, but we manage to use these on a daily basis.

There are many products we must use with caution, but we tend to ignore the warnings on labels. We still drive motorcars, at great speeds, despite the fact that we are polluting the air with the burning rubber from the tyres, not to mention the exhaust fumes.

Maybe if we read how many people have done an injury just walking on the pavement. Oh, don't forget to stay out of the kitchen. That is the most "fatal" room for home accidents!

The thing is the long fluorescent tubes are disposed of as waste. This is closely regulated and controlled. Usually they are returned to the manufacturer and recycled. It is illegal to dispose of them in landfills or by other means.

But the small bulbs being used in people's homes are not. They are going to end up in landfills. They are going to end up broken. And the mercury will pollute the groundwater.

These bulbs are not a good solution. In the name of "green" they have been forced upon us by governments controlled by not the environmental lobby but by whoever is making these bulbs.
