WASHINGTON - Still more evidence today of poor management of U.S. tax dollars designed to help rebuild Iraq. And for the first time, the possibility that this may be endangering our own troops. The U.S. has not properly tracked half a million weapons bought for Iraqi security forces, and a new report reveals that 14,000 weapons are now considered missing.

That's right, according to government watchdogs, more than 13,000 Glock semi-automatic pistols, 751 assault weapons and almost 100 machine guns cannot be accounted for in Iraq, raising the possibility that they may have fallen into the hands of insurgents.

"They're using our weapons in a way that we are not planning for and that means that it's going to endanger the lives of our soldiers and the people of Iraq," says Rick Barton, an international security expert with the Center for Strategic and International Studies.

Did you expect iraqis to behave like Americans and try to clean up the country?

No, but I would expect the US to maintain an eye on things and keep up with weapons.

    Is that asking too much?

Could be asking too much if the natives are not on board.

Not only did we incite a civil war, we seem to have provided the arms for it, too.

Is there any way this could have been bungled worse?

Saddam followed Hitler's plan and it worked even better this time among people that would rather be lead by murderers than by a democratic process.

We coulda sent over a bunch of liberal democrats . . . they woulda been burnt at the stake by the fundamentalist muslims . . . . and it would be a little bit messier than it is now . . .

    ;)

Naw, we'd of had the sense to not go in the first place. This is more like forcing democracy on a place that doesn't want it. I don't believe that is a cause worth dieing for.

I don't think it's asking too much from our military to track the weapons.

It has nothing to do with the Iraqi people.

I'd go with the liberal democrats, rather than giving them guns. It's hard to kill people with a liberal democrat.

What were Rumsfeld and Cheney thinking about? Handing weapons over to the people who want to kill us. That's about the bottom of the barrel.

Do we add the cost of a half million missing weapons onto the 3 or so trillion dollars still missing from the Pentagon? Or are they to be billed seperately?

Think of it as a little gratuity for Saddam's successors.
