Most sports are into "nostalgia" by have a game or two each season with the players wearing the old time uniforms of past glory (or infamy if they wear the old Astro's garb).

Saw the NBA "Rookie" game the 13th and was THRILLED to see the old yellow of the MINNEAPOLIS LAKERS. That is the uniform they wore when I got to see them as a kid at the old Armory. George Mikan against Bob Cousy, when basketball was about SKILL, not behemoths like Shaq and the other rugby players that now pass for basketball.

End of sermon. But wonder if you LIKE the old uniforms or think the guys wearing them today just look silly.

Would love to see the current NBA team wear the Syracuse Nationals. Anybody know who the team is now?
Maybe, I will email the team. Thanks Dr bob

I believe the Nats became the Phila. 76ers, but I won't swear to that. I'm not a HUGE NBA fan. But I DO remember an almost-bald player named George Yardley, and the GREAT Dolph Schayes(Danny's dad, I believe), and later, Johnny Kerr.

Some team moves from city to city while retaining their old name produces some funny oxymorons. The best is UTAH JAZZ, in an area where jazz is a dirty word. Then we have the LA LAKERS, in a city where a mud puddle is considered a lake.

Other moves have not really made the old name an oxymoron, such as Philly to SF Warriors. And others are actually more apropos, such as FT WAYNE PISTONS to DETROIT, the nation's piston center.

Didn't the Nats have red, white, & blue uniforms with a logo of the 48 states on them? I DO remember their togs were quite snappy.

Yes. They became the Sixers in '63.

Throw back unis ... Usually I think the same thing as I do when I see people wearing 70s bell bottoms and hip huggers and the like ... I think to myself, "There is a reason that went out of style the first time."

Those powder blue Lakers unis with the block lettering on them??? Yikes ... And someone mentioned the Astros ... those striped deals were classics ...

The old Astros uniforms had a good reason to change. The strike zone (as detailed by the rule book but ignored today) is right where the multi-colored stripe is on the uniform. No wander they haven't ever won anything

The MINNEAPOLIS Lakers, based in the City of Lakes (I grew up in Minneapolis and you could canoe . . or ice skate from lake to lake to lake) were a great team.

When they moved to LA we PRAYED they would change the name.

Same with the New Orleans JAZZ moving to Utah (the LEAST "Jazzy" place on earth).

THE NBA IS STUPID in this area.

So...what should they change their names to? L.A. Drive-By's? Utah Polygamists?

I just can't help myself. When I see the old Astro uniforms, I feel younger, the old adrenalin rises up in my nostrils. Sorry, got carried away for a moment!

For what its worth, I miss the NE Patriots old red jerseys and Pat Patriot logo. The new uniforms are okay, but I like the classic look better (although I'll take their record in the new look any day!). The silver colored "third jersey" was kind of a waste, IMHO- on TV, it was practically indiscernable from their whites. I would love to have seen a red alternate jersey. We New Englanders must just love traditional looks, I guess- look at the Red Sox and Celtics...

(Speaking of the Red Sox, I would love to see them bring back the old road grays with the block BOSTON on the front, no names on the back. Tradition--- TRADITION! (oom-pah, oom-oompah...)

The whole money issue hasn't come up at about $100 for one of these throwbacks they are making huge amounts of money. This follows the MLB lead with different hats for home and road, Sunday's and even day-games. All designed to get people to spend more money....and it works.
