Tim Tebow and has faced five top 20 defenses. Oklahoma quarterback Sam Bradford has faced one -- ONE! -- defense ranked in the top 20. Here's the kicker. The only team the Sooners have faced with a defense ranked in the top 20 was Texas Christian, which doesn't even play in the Big 12 (but probably should). The next best defense the Sooners faced this season, according to the national rankings, was Cincinnati's (No.24). Cincinnati plays in the Big East. As for Texas quarterback Colt McCoy, the best defense he faced this season was Oklahoma's (No.66).

The defensive statistics reveal more about the drop in the SEC across the board offensively than anything else. It is why the SEC now plays second fiddle the Big XII which has taken over as the offensive powerhouse in college football.

And for the record, Sam padded his numbers in blowout victories while Stoops was running up the score to impress knuckleheaded East Coast sportswriters. Apparently it worked enough to convince everyone that 45-35 in the Cotton Bowl never happened.

I'm looking up lists of football defense ratings and only finding porn & gambling sites. I.E. this lists of rankings on that site cannot be reproduced & nobody knows what they mean

Tebow can not fly as well as Bradford flies :godisgood:

Tee Hee! back in the 1970s, maybe the 1980s people had the same gripe about the University of Oklahoma (OU). the then coach said: "I just can't keep them Fourth Stringers from scoring!".

    My numbers come from here:

    http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/rankingsindex

knuckleheaded East Coast sportswriters (AP Poll):
    Fla #1
    OU #2
    Texas #3
    #13 T.Boone Pickens U (AKA: Oklaha State)

    fans poll (ESPNU Allstate):
    OU #1
    Fla #2
    Penn State #3
    #7 Texas
    #14 T.Boone Pickens U (AKA: Oklaha State)

The numbers I see indicate to me:
And for the record, Sam padded his numbers in blowout victories while Stoops was running up the score to impress American fans.

Tee Hee -- OU is laughing all the way to the Bank

I'm on record in BB saying I'd like OU to play Texas in a final, but it didn't happen.
I know in Basketball two teams will play 7 times and one will win 4 and the other 3. I'd say OU had a bad day when Texas beat OU at a Texas site 45-35.

Here are some public record numbers:

    go to this public record:

    http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/rankingsindex

Go to 2008 NCAA Football Rankings - Week 15
(the day this is posted it will go right there, that detail is for when you read this post later)

Go to BCS Standings, click on #1 Oklahoma

It willtake you to this public record:

    http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/clubhouse?teamId=201

This lists the opponents of OU, the status of the teams they played, the results.

Here is the SIX top 25 teams that OU played (Ranking is the AP sportswriters poll)

    9/27 over #24 TCU 35-10
    10/11 beat as #1 by #5 Texas 45-35**
    10/18 over #16 Kansas 45-31
    11/22 over #2 Texas Tech* 66-28
    11/29 over #12 Oklahoma State 61-41
    12/06 over #20 Missouri 62-21
(this victory over the Big-12 North champ clenched OU the Big-XII Title)

** note: at this point OU ranked in the Big XII South #4, there being three undefeated Big XII teams. At the same time, in the National AP poll, OU was number 4 in the nation. Does the SEC remember that week? Here was the top 5 in week 7:

    -------------------------
    1. Texas (39) 6-0 1,599
    2. Alabama (26) 6-0 1,582
    3. Penn State 7-0 1,492
    4. Oklahoma 5-1 1,306
    5. Florida 5-1 1,284
    -------------------------

Note that then Oklahoma was the highest ranking one-loss team in the country!

Here is a nice fan poll:
    -------------------------
    1. Oklahoma 12-1
    2. Florida 12-1
    3. Penn State 11-1
    4. Alabama 12-1
    5. USC 11-1
    6. Ohio State 10-2
    7. Texas 11-1
    8. Texas Tech 11-1
    -------------------------

Suck it up Great Teams of the Big-12! OU is best.

    * note: Texas Tech got to #2 by defeating Texas:"
    TT beast #1 Texas on 11/01 39-33

Texas shot OU out of #1 on 10/11 45-35
TT shot Texas out of #1 on 11/01 39-33
OU shot TT out of #2 on 11/22 66-28

Which of the three is best? I'd say the last one &/or the one with the most impressive win - OU.

Comparing scores in the big 12 is misleading at best because not everyone keeps the first string offense in the game when the game is won.

Mack Brown ALWAYS benched his starters in the fourth quarter when the game was in hand. Sometimes before the fourth depending on the game, Yes I know this cost Texas a shot against Florida in the NC game, and I think it cost Vince Young a heisman and I think it could cost Colt his. But I believe this makes Texas a class program.

As hard as it is to say this as a Longhorn, I am not sure that the Texas - ou game would have the same result if played again now. But I do feel Mack Brown is a better sportsman and Texas football has more class because we refused to run up a score to further embarrass a team.

It should be a good game though. I think Florida wins by 14

Florida played their second string 4th quarter most games as well.

OU beat Missouri without their Star Running Back, catching Back. He had a minor injury and will be back for the bowl game. Demarco Murry hurt himself in the initial kick-off of Missouri.

I remember the 1970s and 1990s when OU had a fourth string. Then OU was a powerhouse. Needless to say, there are almost as many Texans on the OU team as guys from Oklahoma :)

    What does this mean?

As far as the SEC being down, you're right. Having two teams vying for the national title in December is a down year in the SEC.

True, TN's offense, as well as that of AUB and LSU, were not up to snuff. But Bama usually isn't but was this year, as was UK, Vandy, and Ole Miss. And never mind that SEC teams not named Alabama and Florida do play good non-conference schedules, though I'll admit Tennessee's was weaker this year than most. So I dismiss the notion that the SEC's defenses were good because the offenses were bad. You can argue that the offenses were bad becuase the defenses were good, so we get nowhere there.

I ask this: what did Tebow do against the superior defenses he played against? I know he wasn't lights out at Knoxville, but he played well enough to win.

I've never known Stoops or Meyer to be the "put in the backups and let up on the accelerator" types.

In post #9 I showed that OU in 2008 beat 5 of 6 top 25 teams they played so far.

    using this public record:
    http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/rankingsindex

one can spring off to records for Florida, Texas, and Alabama.

    2. Florida: http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/clubhouse?teamId=57

    beat 5 of 5 top 25 teams

    3. Texas: http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/clubhouse?teamId=251

    beat 3 of 4 top 25 teams

    4. Alabama http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/clubhouse?teamId=333

    beat 3 of 4 top 25 teams

Looks to me like Oklahoma & Florida should be chosen for BCS prior to Texas & Alabama.

The three above named q-backs have all been invited to the Heisman meeting Saturday (13 Dec 2008).

    Were others invited?

Is there really a 'Heisman Curse'? The Heisman Curse says: the teams of q-backs who win the Heisman loose their Bowl Games :(
It sure was true for Jason White of OU.

    I see it as:
Florida has to play a real team for NC and realizes it is the
4th best team in country after the 3 top teams which happen to be in the big 12.
