I'm tired of the legalist and pharisees that keep trying to tell me what to do without showing it to me from the bible. So tomorrow I've decided to go to church with no shoes on and I'm gonna make sure they ar dirty just to show them I can. Nothing wrong with that is there?

No shoes, no shirt, ....no church

    Welcome gristmill
arrive without shoes you will be kicked out of any properly run church.
And there’s nothing pharisaical about it,
just like you'd be kicked out of any store or public building too.

    It's a public heath issue.

Well, we'ed let him in but I have to warn you about those sisters in the Mission. They are likely to take you down to their storage room and put you in a completely new outfit including shoes a few sizes too big.

Very funny. So everyone's gonna throw me out so just tell me bible believers, where in the bible does it say I can't listen to rock music, or go to church barefooted?

There are so many restaurants that have a sign that says, "Shoes and shirts required." Those legalistic Pharisees! And they're not even believers! Oh well, at least I can be naked from the waist down (except for the shoes); they have that going for them.

I understand where you are coming from, I just think you chose a poor example. Think about it, unless you are on a beach, or near one, you are going to be REQUIRED to wear shoes pretty much everywhere you go. It has nothing to do with being legalistic, at least in the church sense.

For the record I don't care what kind of music you listen too, nor if you wear shoes, or anything else for that matter. Everything you do is between you and God, who am I to say anything to you. To answer your question, it does not say anywhere in the Bible you have to wear shoes, or a shirt/tie/skirt/dress, etc. (nor does it say you can't listen to certain types of music)

You know what the Lord Jesus said, don't cha??

He said----listen to the Pharasees-----do what they say but don't do what they do!!

You find out what Jesus wore to church----and wear it!!

You find out what music Jesus listened to---and listen!
You find out who Jesus would kick out of the services---and kick 'um out(Hint here: Don't get this oozy, sugary feeling that Jesus wouldn't kick anybody out-----He chased out a few rebel rouzers with Heaven's "BullWhip!!" before, didn't He??)

    See---

Because I've got this strange funny feeling---that Jesus is the biggest legalist that Heaven has!! He wrote the book on it!! He upheld every act of legal print and obeyed it perfectly!!

You find out who Jesus would kick out of the services---and kick 'um out!!

These are just a few verses that I might use for your example. I agree...Pharisees are bad. Believe me, I went to a strict Christian school...I know what Pharisees are.

But, also, I know what humans are. I've learned to do things only for God...not for man.

Would you be going barefoot for God? Or to make a point for yourself?

Are you wanting to do what's right in your own eyes or Gods? Are you trying to cause "mischief"? Do you desire to hear anything at all that others say?

I do not know what the answers to these questions for you are...but I would hope you would think about them.

I go to church to be edified and rebuked and educated from God's word...not to create a point of hostility or argument.

I do not know anything about you, but from your posts you do sound bitter or angry. Be careful...there is a lot in the Bible about these issues.

Again, I can not give you scripture for your desire of no shoes or your desire to listen to rock...but there are plenty for the apparent attitude you seem to have (just as there are about the Pharisees).

And as you seem to have a lot of anger toward Pharisees, be careful that through this anger you have...you do not become a Sadducee (because you seem Sad-You-See). :)

Now you know I'm going to be looking for barefoot people in church tomorrow! ;)
I'm not sure anyone in my Alabama church would care one way or the other if'n you came barefoot. You'd probably be asked if you had a need for a pair of shoes, but otherwise.....who cares? It's your toes that are going to smushed by all the folks wearing their Sunday shoes! You know, dress shoes for some reason are made with harder soles that have sharper edges than tennis shoes.

You also better watch out that you don't open a door across your foot and snatch off a toenail. My eldest did that once while running around the church barefoot.

(btw, going barefoot is a rather silly reason not to go to church. I just bet you could find a better excuse or just stand up and declare your not going to go and take responsibility for your own decision.)

A lot of people here go barefoot, not usually in church or sit down resturants. But Isee nothing worng with it, I see quit a few people taking their shoes off at church, in class frenquently, or in the service, usually women come to think of it, probably hurt feet from shoes, I take mine off if my feet hurt from a lot of walking on Saturday.
But I wouldn't suggest going into church barefoot with dirty feet, your not showing legalists anything, and it looks bad on you.

I love to go barefoot too. Somehow, I think the issue here is much deeper than dirty feet and music - and Gristmill, I am sorry you have gotten hurt.

I'm less worried about what music you listen to you and what foot attire you wear than I am about your rebellious spirit and lousy attitude. It appears you need to get the log out of your eye before you start getting specks of dust out of everyone elses.*

*Matthew 7:1-5 - the classic verses that some Pharisees like to throw in other Pharisees' faces all the time.

Well--I see no one "took off" with my advice---personally--I thought it some good advice.

Now---here's the "skinny" on going barefoot at church

I have a pastor friend--who---preaches barefooted----at the beginning of his message---he'll slip out of his shoes there on the platform---and when the invitation is over he slips them back on!!

There's a lady in my church now---that before she gets up to preac----I mean, sing a special----she'll do the same thing---she'll slip out of her "Women's heels" and sing barefooted.

Their reasoning---nothing between my God and me----not even the soles of my shoes!!

Before Moses approached God's holy fire in worship----God commanded what??? Take your shoes off, Moses!! Buddy---you are on holy ground---Friend--you are in my presence!!!

Joshua---when he came face to face with Heaven's Captain----he didn't discard his sword----rather he "wealded" his sword in God's holy face!!! But I tell you what he did discard----his shoes!!! The dude was standing there in the Presence of the Holiest of Heaven---with a sword raised and barefooted!!!

You find yourself on holy ground in the presence of Heaven's "Holy Thing"---buddy---it doesn't matter in which hand you hold your sword---you had better get yourself barefooted!!! You hang on to that sword---but trash the shoes!!!!

    Grist,

Follow in the footsteps of Jesus, who wore "shoes"...

    John 1
    26 John answered them, saying, I baptize with water: but there standeth one among you, whom ye know not;
27 He it is, who coming after me is preferred before me, whose shoe's latchet I am not worthy to unloose.

    Gristmill,

Just wear shorts and flip flops. Same idea, but weeds out those who'd cite a health code.

This posting reminds me of the story of a man who went to church looking for friends and did not find any. Then he decided to return but with a different atitude. He returned making himself a friend and found them all over ther place.

Whatever one wants to find in a church they will find it.

Well now, you know what ? I don't like Rock music, never liked it even when I was not a believer. Just couldn't understand the lyrics, that is, if you're talkin' 'bout hard rock. And what little lyrics I did understand, I didn't particularly cared 'bout.
More so I didn't like it when I saw my people, some of whom could barely speak English outside of grade school English, or pidgin English, swayin' and groovin' on 'em rock music they list'nin' to on their awful soundin' battery powered transistor radios, while their carabaos cooled themselves in the mud and they ate their lunch under the mango trees, 'cuz I wuz pretty sure they didn't understand one word of that slangy, rocky, slurpin' and slurrin' rock jargon that them hard rock musicians are poppin' outta marijuana smellin' mouths in their acid induced states.

Now, after I became a believer, and read the pros and cons of rock music, especially the so-called "Christian" rock, the more I said fergit it, they kin go have 'em all and jam their behinds full with it if they've a min' ta.

Now, you askin' for Scriptures ?

Well, you know what, Scriptures or not, ya'll gon' do what ya'll wanna do, so why ask ? Ain't no Scriptures sayin' nuthin about rock music, like, y'know, it's printed right there in the Bible in plain English letters sayin' "thou shalt not listen to rock music", but there are Scriptures that 'em anti-Rock folks kin point to ya'll 's gon' tell ya in so many ways it ain't good.

But it ain't no use, cuz what you will do, and what you wanna do, is fight and bicker, and argue that rock music is awright, and that they all are just plain pharisaical, like they were born yesterday and ya'll been here forever.

Now, I ain't one of 'em anti-Rock folks, mind ya, jist my own personal opinion that rock music, hard rock, that is, ain't no music at all, but, an avenue for release of anger, or frustration, or jist plain energy that's bound to mellow down with age.

My sons listened to rock music of the KISS variety, and I chided 'em for it, and guess what, now they all past 25, they much prefer the folk rock/soft rock kinda music, which I like as well.
