In this mornings Bible study a question was raised about how to address God. It is fairly usual for people to start off with "Lord, or Heavenly Father" However there is one amongst the congregation who has a sacred name bible and says that God is Addonai, Jesus is Yashua and the Holy Spirit has a three worded name which I cannot remember.

I have heard the Jehovahs witnesses say that Gods name is Jehovah, and Yahweh is popular also. Yet it was brought up that these are Titles rather than names as such. Jesus starts the Lords prayer with our Father who art in heaven. Yet Jesus is now there also and we have the comforter the Holy Spirit with us. Yet it does not seem to suggest in the bible that we should pray to the Holy Spirit, but rather that the Holy Spirit should help us pray. Should we attempt to call on God by a name or a title?

Adonai is Hebrew for Lord. Holy Spirit, in
    Hebrew, is Ruach HaKodesh.

"Jehovah" is just another attempt to translate
The Name. No one today knows how our God
intended it to be pronounced, but it almost
certainly did not have a "J" sound in it. Ancient
Hebrew did not have a letter-equivalent to the
    letter, "J."

Y'shua (and other similar spellings) is a name,
not a title. I, also, do not recall any place in the
Bible which says we are to pray TO the Holy
    Spirit.

I, personally, would never attempt to use the
Sacred Name, YHVH, because we do not know
what its pronunciation really is. Its pronuncia-
tion has been lost for centuries, and our God
would not have allowed that to happen without a
    reason.

Without hesitation, however, I call Him Father,
    Adonai, HaShem, and our God.
